I just completed the transition training for our new H & K P 2000 v5 pistol in 9mm and the ALS holster.



First impressions of the holster. It is a fantastic piece of kit. Once you commit the draw sequence to muscle memory it is smooth as butter to draw.

We were drawing in under 2 seconds after 3 days of practice and shooting. The paddle keeps the holster snug against your body and it doesn't move at all on the belt.



The "hood was something I saw as a sales gimmick but the way it is designed it's going to be pretty much impossible for a gun grab from the front or back with the hood locked in place. According to Safariland the hood and the internal locking mechanism that works on the ejection port will withstand 400 lbs of pressure each  without failing.



Now the H & K.



Pros.



Points very well, nice robust sights with a wide square notch in the read sight. Ours have night sights but I'm not sure what brand.

Very light and the recoil is very manageable. Double taps were touching on the target at 7 yards.

Ambidextrous mag release and slide release.

Heavy stippling on the front and back of the grip makes for a nice secure grip.



Cons.



The mag release is horrible. Instead of a button type with most pistols have, the P2000 has a leaver type that you have to push down towards the mag well.

It is ambidextrous in that it's outside the bottom of the trigger guard. It's a bar for lack of a better word that has a knob on both ends.It pivots down requiring you to move your middle finger out of the way.

A knob with very sharp edges that dig into your middle finger when you shoot. I don't like it even a little bit. I like to maintain my shooting grip and be able to release the mag. Impossible with this style.



The grip is very short. I compared it to a friends Sig P226 ( local PD). the grip is almost half an inch shorter then the Sig.

I have big hands and the grip didn't come close to the knife edge of my hand. Not a huge deal but it isn't what I'm used to and was another thing to adjust to.

The grip is adjustable in that they come with a small, medium, large and x-large back strap. All have a notch in them for a lanyard..more sharp edges to dig into your hand when shooting.



Ours are DAO and the trigger pull is very long with a creepy take up. The trigger it self has a very pronounced curve in it which was tight on my finger.

Having handled the V1 at SHOT with the LEM trigger..I would have much preferred it.



The gun is very accurate considering it has a 3" barrel. I didn't shoot for groups (didn't have time) but it was no problem to keep all shots inside the 8 ring of a B-27 out to 25 yards shooting a timed course of fire. This was after firing approx 500 rounds through the gun over 3 days.

IE 2 rounds in 6 seconds from the holster at 7 yards, 2 rounds from the holster in 8 seconds at 15 yards..



Over all I'm satisfied with the choice of handgun..a huge improvement over our old model 10's.

It's from the holster in 6 seconds. Any shots in 2 seconds were from the low ready.

I'm a CO and all of our firearms training is based on "nothing will ever happen"...


I'm going to be purchasing my own P2000 in the near future so I can train on my own.

It doesn't hit your middle finger when you depress it? We don't do any timed mag changes so I was using my strong hand thumb..but I still don't like it.




 

Must be me..but I found I had to move my middle finger to depress it..

No doubt training will eliminate this issue..
