Being a community police officer I am "non-essential personnel". I start vacation tomorrow and go back to work Jan 3rd. I still have to attend SWAT training and will take any overtime shifts which come my way

You got to get into a specialist slot. I have not worked a holiday (unless it was for OT) in many years. Strictly monday -friday with weekends and holidays off.

We have Dec 24th and 25th off, and we have to work Dec 31st and Jan 1. To add insult to injury I am working 12 hour nights (6:00 PM to 6:00 AM). But at least it's inside work. Being a construction electrician I haven't worked inside for the last year and a half.

If I was days or evenings on Christmas day I would have taken the stat but I'm backshift so I will go in. Home by 7am..watch the kids open their presents and then grab a few hours sleep.

We rotate Thanksgiving and Christman off. I had a 4 day weekend over Thanksgiving. I'm off Christmas eve and work Christmas at 1900, so I won't miss much.  I work New Year's eve and New Years at 1600, so I'll miss the party.  |

I'm working first shift all the way through from friday till tuesday. I don't mind though, I can see family and friends after 1400 each day

I took off Christmas Eve, but work midnights on Christmas day. No biggie there.
I have to work midnights on New years eve though.

I have Christmas and New Years off by default. We usually bid for special days (apart from annual vacation) off to spread the holiday wealth. We bid Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years and our annual football game.
Single guys usually give Christmas to the family guys and take New Years day off. NorCal |

worked Thanksgiving, working xmas eve, xmas day, and new years eve. But last year I had all of them off. Just depends where the holidays fall in the rotating schedule.

x-mas eve gotta work an OT shift 2000-0200 and x-mas day 1000-0400 (a 16), working nights new years eve 1600-0400 then new years day off
But my own, brand new personal cruiser is supposed to be in soon, so I wont mind riding around on those nights, cuz its usually pretty quiet with the excecption of new years eve. |

This year I will have worked Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day hopefully I'll get New Years off but we'll see.

Worked 24 hours on Thanksgiving and get to do the same on Christmas. Not a problem working on Christmas, we have no children (at least that I know about).

I am working 16 hours on Christmas and then 16 more on New years days. I do net 8 days vacation for it though.

Evenings on Thanksgiving Nights on Christmass eve and Days on Christmass day. They stated the good news was that I have New Years day off. I have a family I dont need a night of heavy drinking and a hangover...or do I ?

This is the first time in 16 years I haven't had to work T-Day or Xmas, and I'm on Kelly (FLSA day off) on New Years. We were able to go to STL to visit the inlaws actually on the holiday... wow.
It made the wife happy.
