Hey guys. My brother and his family were able to get out of Slidell, Louisiana before Katrina hit. They relocated to northern Louisiana to ride the storm out. Understand that Slidell was in the direct path of Katrina upon landfall. They have been told that it may be weeks or months before they can come back to their home. I contacted Louisiana State Police, thinking that they would release some damage information to a Texas State Police Officer (DPS). WRONG! They basically gave me the canned answer that they had no information.
All I need to know is: Is there anything left of Slidell, Louisiana? My brother had time to grab his wife, kids, and a couple of changes of clothes and get the hell out of Dodge. I know things are crazy right now with LSP and the locals, but he is desperate to have a sliver of information. I've run out of options, so I'm appealing to anyone who can help me out.
I don't need any consoling on behalf of my brother, just some information. If you have any, please email me and let me know. Thanks in advance for your assistance and help!
UPDATE: Just received a call, and they were able to somehow get back into Slidell. All is well, they lost a bunch of shingles off of the roof, and their backyard is history, but other than that there was no significant damage. Many of their neighbors didn't fare so well. Thanks to those who responded, and offered help.
