Two NYPD Detectives Killed in Line of Duty Friday Night
(New York-WABC/AP, September 10, 2004) — Two NYPD detectives died Friday night, fatally attacked as they responded to a domestic violence call. It happened in Brooklyn. The officers were first listed in critical condition at Kings County Hospital. Eyewitness News learned just before 11:00pm that both have died. The identities of the officers were not immediately released. Police have two suspects in custody in the shooting, one of them reportedly was shot in the confrontation and has been hospitalized. In March 2003, two undercover detectives from the police department's organized crime control bureau were shot and killed on Staten Island during a sting operation against gun dealers. It appears that they were answering a Domestic Violenca call and according to witnesses one of the detectives was wrestling th e perp and consequently got a hold ot the Det.'s firearm shot and killed both of them. Unfortnately tneither one was wearing kevlar as Det. are not required to wear. Something to think about.

Police: Detectives May Have Been Shot With One of Their Own Guns
(East Flatbush-WABC, September 12, 2004) — Ballistic tests are being conducted to determine whether the suspect in the shooting deaths of two New York City detectives shot them with one of their own guns. They were responds to go a domestic dispute in East Flatbush on Friday night. Both were shot in the chest when apparently the suspect grabbed one of their guns. Ray Kelly, Police Commissioner: "One detective was able to tell the responding officers that there was a photograph of the man they were looking for on the dash board of their squad car." I attended the funeral. There had to be 1500-2000 officers from various jurisdictions/agencies. When I left my command I was the lead vehicle of 2 (bosses wanted to be in the Crown vic instead of the Van) from Brooklyn. By the time I reached JFK I was leading a carvan of 17. We had to park about a mile away from the church. There were tons Harleys (I still can't believe the MTA has a Motorcycle squad). When they rode in front of the precession leading the casket it was amazing listening/feeling to them get closer/passing by. Aviation did a fly over accompanied by other agencies with a total of 7 choppers. It wasn't my first NYPD funeral, but it was the most spectacular one I've seen so far.

I couldnt go to rafferty's funeral because I had to work a detail in manhattan that day and I coundt get out of it
I will be at Parker's funeral tomorrow. Is everyone going?

Rollcall was totally mesed up with our 4 person detail going to Det. Rafderty's funeral, SO only one person from Fifth Platoon gets to go (not me). |
