Just a note, he is not the only LEO that lost it all. I know of at least 25 sheriffs deputies not far from Titusville that are homeless.

I received this email from a good friend of mine who works for an agency in Florida.  As you can see, he is attempting to get some assistance for our fellow officers who were affected by Hurricane Charley.  Another good friend, the Sheriff of Charlotte County apparently was on CNN as his command post was destroyed around him and his officers.  They were lucky to come out ok.  I'm trying to collect up some donations to send to Titusville and they will forward it on to the needing officers and their families.  If you are interested in helping, please see me.

Thanks for your time and attention on this.

Al, could you forward this around your agency please?  Thanks.

Steve

Subject: Hurricane Charley

Good Afternoon Everyone,

Hurricane Charley has passed over us and many of us are now dealing with the
aftermath of the experience.   There are so many people that have been
affected at different levels.  It brings to mind the saying, "But for the
grace of God there go I."  There are some of our own in-house folks that
have been affected at the severe level, and 25 deputies with the Charlotte
County Sheriff's Office that are homeless.....they lost everything.  With
this in mind, I'd like to ask for your help.

First, for our own "immediate family" we would like to identify what their
needs are and work to address them.  Whether it's food, clothing, some place
to stay, clean up of debris around their house, tree removal, etc., please
let us know.  We would like to coordinate an effort to help address the
needs.

As for our "extended family" at Charlotte S.O., after speaking with Sheriff
Cameron, we've learned that they are in need of "everything."  We would like
to put together a "care trailer" that we can deliver to them courtesy of
Titusville Police Department.  If you are able to donate money or supplies
it will be appreciated.  They are in need of the basics......soap, shampoo,
toothpaste, toothbrushes, bottled water, deodorant, sunscreen, toilet paper,
lotion, washcloths, bath towels, socks, etc.

Sgt. Schultz, Commander Massey, and myself are starting the cash donations
off with a combined total of $175.00 and PAL is hoping to collect at least
another $125.00 more.  Anyone else who would like to give cash can see me,
or just drop your donation in the PAL donation jar that is on the table in
my office.  All donated cash will be used to purchase supplies that will be
taken to the Deputies in Charlotte County.

Anyone who has some extra supplies around the house, or would prefer to
purchase supplies (such as those listed above) please do.  It can be as
simple as an extra case of bottled water or an extra stick of deodorant.
You can drop your donations off at my office and I will start packing the
trailer.

Donations will be accepted through 1200 hours on Friday, August 27, 2004.
After that we will make our final purchases and hopefully make a delivery to
them during that weekend.

Thanks in advance

When Andrew stomped Fla. I took up a collection in the dept . to help  LEO types only --  sent it to the SO , and they told me they had to put it in the general fund that was distributed to everyone, LEO and non LEO alike.

Anyone know if this is for LEO only ?

If so I will send some bucks for a fellow officer.
