That GIF reminded me of this video.  "Just remember, if the cops have to chase you, they're bringing an ass-whipping with them".

Had a guy ask me this last night. Another unit had pulled him and his buddy (the driver) over on a traffic stop. Driver had a warrant, officer called for a cover. I was close and called out with him. Officer asked me to ID the passenger as he pulled out the driver. I had him step out, asked him his name, and if he had any ID on himself. He said he didn't, I then pointed at his pocket and asked what the bulge was, he said, "Oh, my wallet. Yeah, I have ID".

He then stopped as he was pulling out his ID and asked, "Am I being detained?".

I said, "Yes, you are".

He didn't know what to do after that.

Yeah I love it when someone ask me "Am I being detained?" and when I tell them "Yes you are"....they don't know what to do.

Even better, it seems that when the above exchange happens, after I complete whatever it is I'm doing and then tell the person that he/she is free to leave.....for some reason they usually refuse to leave.  Sometimes I even have to order them to leave.

Yup, my guy came back clear. I told him thanks and he was free to go. He looked lost. It's fun getting inside their Sovereign OODA loop decision cycle.

Kinda like saying "You have the right to remain silent.  And I recommend you exercise that right and shut the hell up."  Not that I have ever said that....just something I've heard of cops saying.....

My go to response, "Yeah you are, but I can put you in handcuffs if that makes you feel more detained."

Fail.  I love getting subpoenas for cases I had minimal involvement in.

I bought  a Kindle for just such occasions. Get paid to read Sci Fi.

I love it when the DA says, "Why are you here?: and I reply "You don't know?"
