My mother will be going in for knee replacment surgery tomorrow. This will be a "total" knee replacement on her left knee. They will be replacing her right knee in November.

Thanks in advance

Thoughts and prayers sent!

I have a friend who had it done early this year. Only problem he reports is that when he travels by air, TSA gets "real personal" with him! Weird thing is that he is LEO with clearance to fly armed! But we are safer from terrorists, aren't we?

UPDATE

All is well. The surgery was a success.  w00t!

We went to the hospital at 6:45 Central to get my Mom there.  They took her in at 8:30 but didn't get started till 10:10, and about 12:30 she was done.  However, she had problems in Recovery waking up so she didn't come to her room till 3:15.  But she is okay(a little groggy) but all is well.

It's been a helluva day but I'm glad the worst parts over.

Thanks again for your prayers.  Deej86

The wife had this operation in January.

Your Mom will need a lot of help for a few weeks and keep on her about the PT, even when she gets mad at ya about it.  It will pay off later with the increased motion she'll have because of it.

UPDATE
All is still well today.  We (sister and I) went to see my Mom around 1:30 today, she was on oxygen b/c of the recovery issue, she is off and is better.

She went to Physical Therapy twice and it went well, she was on a walker, except her knee did "give out" during one of the sessions but other than that she is okay. I didn't get to see her in PT though, she did go while I was there.

She was in a wheelchair when she was in the room, and even got up and used a walker to get to the bathroom.

I don't mean to rant, but one of her nurses is driving me crazy.  And not in a good way.  She constantly uses baby talk around my mom.  When her food was bought, she told my mom to "gobble gobble", and then asked if she was "comfy womfy."  Today when they took her blood sugar(mom is diabetic), this nurse said she was going to get her a "clothie".  rant off.

Just wanted to let you ladies that all is well.

She'll have a few weeks of it when she goes home.  If her insurance covers it get a therepist to come to your home a couple of times a week.  It's money well spent.

this is a no-no. I personally would bring it to her attention in a polite manner that Mom is not a child and we would appreciate that you don't talk to her as such. If that doesn't work, talk to a higher up. All hospital patients deserve to be treated with respect and baby talk isn't how to do that.

Glad she seems to be doing well, it's a tough road ahead, just be there for her.

Thanks for the well-wishes and advice.

MrsGH, I will bring it up to her attention if it continues.

Hoppy, my mom will probably be getting home PT, but not in our home(we live in an apt. complex with a steep hill leading to the door, and the door on the other side is down a flight of stairs.) so after she gets out(Sunday hopefully). she is going to a friend of ours that is a retired pastor and staying with his family, and then going to an extended-stay hotel.

UPDATE
Everything is still good.  I actually got to go to her PT session and see her do her exercises, she accomplished her goal of getting to bend to 90 degrees (w00t!) She was on 2 IV's and is on only 1 now(the good painkiller!)

When she's going "home"(going to a friend of ours that's a retired pastor) is still up in the air.  Maybe tomorrow, maybe Monday, it's still TBD.

Thanks everyone.
