Is it legal for an out of state resident traveling interstate through California to possess an unloaded AR-15 in his or her trunk.  The Firearms Owners' Protection Act permits the interstate transportation of unloaded firearms by any person not prohibited by Federal law from such transportation regardless of any State law or regulation.

Troy,

Does the statute actually address the overnight stay? If not, what are you basing your opinion on?

Robertesq1,

Just curious - how do you travel "through" California? Don't you just end up in the Pacific Ocean? Are ARs legal there?
