Average pocket knife, 2-5 inchs in length, folding or non. I realise a knife could be used as a weapon, as could a hammer. In general I have always views knives as a tool, not a weapon and can't understand how people get so pissy about them. To me a knife=tool, guns=weapon.
Where do you stand? |
IBTP!
Both! FUCK!!!! IATP ETA: Wait a minute... where is the PIE??? |
Both..
Primarily a tool, but if the situation and need dictates, absolutely a weapon |
I would say both. If you use it to open a box, cut down a tree limb etc, it is a tool. If you stab someone with intent to do bodily harm then it is a weapon.

A fleshlight could be a weapon if need be. |

Quoted: A tool... For cuttin' people! Couldn't have said it better. |

Many things can be weapons if needed.
Stereotypes against knifes are like those against guns. |
Quoted: Both.. Primarily a tool, but if the situation and need dictates, absolutely a weapon This is the only logical answer. |

A tool is a tool. Sometimes the tool you have isn't perfect for the job.
But it's better than no tool at all! |

I'm goin with tool on this one, I had this discussion with a guy at the DMV the other day and he agreed cause the asshole security guard decided that no "weapons" were allowed on state property and had told us both we HAD to take our "weapons" to our cars. I almost told that dipshit that it only applied to CCW, [conduct code violation and user removed - Paul] Oops. Nope, not racist at all. |

Its a tool............sometimes the job might involve it being used as a weapon.

Power tripping mall ninjas & Affirmitive Action hire real JBTs (we be da po-leese!!!) are a reality. AFAIC if it's under whatever length limit re knives in whatever state weapons statute then it's not a weapon unless you are using it as such. |

A weapon IS a tool.
<edit> Damnit! tesla120 beat me by a mere ...two and a half hours (+/-) or so. |
pocket knife - tool first, defensive weapon in desperate circumstances
screw driver - tool first, defensive weapon in desperate circumstances clawhammer - tool first, defensive weapon in desperate circumstances etc, etc, etc. Its not the inanimate object that is inherently dangerous, but the way we choose to use it. |
I carry two. Swiss Army is the best TOOL I have in my toolbox. Ialso carry an Emmerson C7Q that is a weapon

Tool first. Weapon second if nothing else. My thoughts also. The typical pocket knife is certainly not ideal for self defense, but is better than nothing. |
“A gun is not a weapon, Marge. It’s a tool, like a butcher’s knife, or a harpoon, or an alligator.”
Yes.
(but, really just a tool which could be a defensive weapon if necessary to defend ones self.) |
A cutting tool. The knife doesn't care or know what it is cutting. The user makes it a weapon.
thats a trick question.......
all knives are a tools anything/everything is a weapon. you can use anything as a weapon, from golf clubs to verbage. |
Both, a straw from a drink is a weapon if it is the only thing you have your hands on.
A knife is a tool.
All tools are weapons with correct application |
It's a tool.
Anything can be used as a weapon but a pocket knife isn't the first thing I would grab if I needed something to defend myself. In fact, I'd rather have a claw hammer than a tiny knife. |

A fleshlight could be a weapon if need be. And some think the sound of a 12 gage pump strikes fear in the bad guys, I've got a fleshlight! on the other hand, if a pump makes them soil themselves, I don't think I want to know what a fleshligt might make them do |

Only women fancy a pocket knife to be a weapon. Men who believe that pocket knives are weapons are pussies or ignorant queer bates. Real men know that pocket knives were designed as tools, but can be used as weapon. A claw hammer was designed as a tool to drive and pull nails, but it has the potential to be a devastating weapon under the wrong circumstances. In a street fight or bar brawl I can think of a dozen other things that I would prefer to have in my hands other than a pocket knife. However, left with the choice of nothing or a pocket knife I'd take the pocket knife.
