A private members bill was sucessfully voted on today that would eliminate the long gun registration of firearms, basically most rifles and shotguns. Handguns, EBRs and some other stuff are still registered. This is a milestone vote as the registry has been shown to be both a tool of confiscation and a $2 Billion dollar waste of tax payer dollars with no net benefit in reducing crime, safety etc.  Although the bill was passed it still requires a hearing in committee and a pass through the Senate. But because Harper will finally control the Senate in the next few months its looking very likely that long gun registry in Canada
IS NOW GONE!

very happy about this.

Great news for sure; still lots of work on repealing anti-firearm legislation remaining though

I found it ironic that the list led to more guns in the hands of criminals, via theft by people with access to the list.

Congrats to the good people of Canada! You brought us hockey and Moosehead beer - you deserve this victory!

Good for you guys!  Now if only Canada would lighten up on semi-autos and handguns.  I guess you should be happy that you are still lightyears better than the other "commonwealth" countries though.  The UK, Australia, NZ, etc pretty much all have horrid gun laws...

I saw an episode of "Ice Road Truckers" a couple years ago where Hugh was shooting a Browning Buckmark out the window of his truck...  Are .22 pistols legal in nuckerland or what?

we look at this as a good start to turning back the clock on communist gun grabbing laws... Plus its good for you because now the Brady retards cant say well look at Canada and their wonderful gun registry...

Theres still lots more left to to, but its a great start. They have tried 3 times so far this year to get different bills voted on. The anti gun people are on the media forcasting blood and death everywhere...

Actually Quebec is conservative. It's Montreal that's a liberal cesspit. Ottawa is too small to matter. The problem is  Vancouver, Toronto and Montreal.

If the registry went away, would you still need any sort of license to purchase and possess, or would it be like in the US where you can walk into a store and walk out with a rifle 15 minutes later?
