Yippe, I am paying over $1000 in taxes to the school system that I have no kids in and has one of the highest drop-out rates in the state.

I just paid $3700 to a school system that I have no kids in and has 24+ teachers/administrators making over $100K a year in.

Florida?

I'm paying my share for the hoodrat babysitting service here in the Sunshine State.  And I'm paying about $13,000 a year after taxes for my 2 of my kids Catholic Schools.

Worth every penny.  My kids' tuition, not the taxpayer-funded daycare.

Thankfully, no state income tax here.

So?

Taxes are used for a bunch of things that you may not be directly involved in.

Until there is a better option, I am all for public schools. Bad schools are going to help more than no schools.

The School Boards in FL sure can Pi$$ away $$$––The Schools even gave some kids "Free" Physical Therapy...

I am just more frustrated at this county consistently very high drop-out rate, ever since I moved here, it doesn't seem to change.

Maybe it is time to outsource the school systems to the private sector that consistently show poor results.

I pay taxes for the senior citizens bingo hall, but I don't use that either.

We homeschooled.  That meant:

  • We lost one income

  • We paid school taxes for schools we didn't use.

  • We paid for independent supplies and curriculums.

  • We got hassled every year by the local school board

I came to the conclusion that good schools ultimately strengthened a community and supported property values and decided not to stew about it.  I could always move if it bugged me enough.

Hmm - time to run them more like a business, maybe. I vote for a lot more vocational schools and high schools that teach vocational skills.

Not everyone is college material and the service industry makes good money.

Only $1000?

You are lucky, $2500 here, and 1% of all my income. Plus there is a vote today to add another $450 to my property tax, and the school board wants to up the income tax next year. Our graduation rate is about 65%.

Funny, they keep saying this will increase property values, yet no homes are selling in our crap hole town and foreclosures keep increasing. If I could move tomorrow, I would.
