Bavarian Forestry Police M1 Carbine from CMP. This is a service grade rifle and according to some threads on the CMP forum, there were less than 100 Forestry Police service grade rifles available. In general, I'm pretty pleased with the rifle itself. However, the story behind these rifles is what makes it worth having. It is a National Postal Meter with an Underwood 10-43 barrel. Finish is near perfect other than the hideous trigger group. Some nice cartouches. Wood is nice, a little more dinged up than I'd like, but it is pretty enough.

Why is the trigger group bronze? Did they replace the parts or just plate them?

Wow, the non-bayonet lug barrel band and original rear flip sight! That's very unusual, usually those features disappear during the arsenal rebuild!

I don't believe these were ever issued to US troops, I believe from the factory to the Bavarian law enforcement agencies and thus went through fewer rebuilds. |

Good looking carbine!
And since you're so disappointed in it just box it up and send it to me. I'll give it a loving home. The rear sight and barrel band are early features. I doubt left the factory like that and went directly to the Bavarians. More than likely, imo, is this carbine went overseas in the hands of a USGI, fought in the war and when the GI rotated home during the occupancy his carbine went to the Bavarians before it could get a post war rebuild. So you have a genuine, USGI Nazi killing machine on your hands!

Very nice rifle!
The M1 Carbine is one of those I really want to get, not to shoot but to just stare at.
