I would think that as long as the inner workings are different then it wouldn't matter. However, there are plenty of differences despite an outward similarity - at least between the ACR and the SCAR. The XCR looks more like an H&K to me.

Okay, never handled any of the rifles, only seen a few pics of them, they looked an awful lot alike to me.

The SCAR and ACR might look similar, but they're completely different. There are plenty enough similarities between the three that they can reasonably be compared.
