I have no experience with Danner Boots, but i do have the Matterhorn boots that the USMC is issued. These boots are top of the line. The goretex keeps your feet nice and warm especially in the weather of the last few days. They feel like you are wearing a sneaker. They are a little heavier than the jungle boot Im used to wearing, but thats not a problem. Im not a big fan of the tread. Its more of something to be used on the roads or in garrison. It is a small sneaker like bottom. It is made by vibram, which is the best pair of soles that can be bought. I use mine for road marching mostly. If you want them for the field, you can always send them to ranger joes or some other place and have a riffle sole, or waffle sole put on the boot. I would highly recommend them. The army finally realized the potential of these boots and are going to begin issuing them in coming years.
