From the Wa-Po

NASHVILLE –– As tens of thousands of country music fans made the annual pilgrimage here over the weekend for the summer rite known as the CMA Music Festival, recent news from the four-day event's organizer, the Country Music Association, has left some executives on Music Row quaking in their cowboy boots.

With the Internet becoming an increasingly dominant way for fans to discover and purchase music, a survey of 7,500 people by the country music industry's trade organization revealed a sobering fact: Only 50 percent of core country fans have Internet access at home. That statistic, released in March, is far below the national average. A 2008 survey by Nielsen Media Research found that 80 percent of all U.S. homes have a computer, and almost 92 percent of those homes have Internet access.

Even better question: who on an internet forum cares?
See, this is what lack of sleep does to you.

Selling digital music is many times more profitable than producing CD's.The music industry would much prefer someone buying music that doesn't need any packaging, printed material, shipped, stored and so on.

Couldn't be an attempt to demonstrate how people who listen to country music are backwards, uninformed hicks, could it?  Surely not. No one would judge other people based on what kind of music they prefer. Nahhh. Must be something else.

There are other groups that have very low interests in the Internet or technology in general and their benefits and therefore have very low participation numbers.

I somehow seriously doubt that we'll hear about the digital divide with this group. We won't be paying an increase in taxes in order to enable those poor disenfranchised people who are being left behind.
