Not an Obama supporter or voter, but I'll punt.
Weak points:
1) He lost "change" inertia quickly, especially in regards to big campaign promises. A good start would have been appointing a Pentagonster on Jan. 20 and saying "Guantanamo Prison Camp will be closed in 30 days. It's your job to find where to put these guys." This could also be done by taking an axe to the war on drugs. In short, I don't see really what "change" has occurred.
2) He certainly doesn't have W's skill in either steering or ignoring Congress.
3) I understand he followed a Mexican lunch with a Chinese dinner and that the following day was not so good.
Strong points:
1) He's done great at letting his opposition sink into a babbling morass that no one wants to be associate with. Even most moderates I talk to associate the "right" with birth-certificate conspiracy kooks and those convinced he's going to stage an Islamic takeover of the country.
2) His foreign policy is so far the same as Bush's with a slightly friendlier rhetorical overtone.
3) Whether or not most people want to admit it, his actions toward Chrysler and GM have buoyed the economy. Things would have gotten real ugly real quick if either one had gone into liquidation.
I suppose the more salient question: who honestly thinks John McCain would have pursued different policies than the ones we've been following for the last 4 months?
