Haven't tried calling around yet but how difficult and expensive is it to get bowling pins to use for target shooting?

Do bowling alleys get rid of/replace them frequently?

I thought maybe Craigslist would have them but not really. Same with eBay.

Second and third-hand anecdotal ramblings suggest that they do, but I have never looked into the matter to verify such claims for myself.

...I think I'll tag this to see how easily you'll be able to get some in your area.

Around here, every two months or so the local lanes purge out the old and worn out pins.

One lane sells them for $2 a pin (which is a little steep IMHO), but just down the road I can get them for $8 a case (10 pins). It a matter of timing when they get rid of them. I left my number with the mechanic, and he calls me when he's got a bunch.

I have went into the Bowling alley and asked about them here and they sold me them for a buck a piece.

Just call your local alley, they tend to have old ones for sale.

I got one free once.  It came back in the ball return, pushed along by the ball.  I took it home and it sat on my shelf for several years until the day it crossed me and we had to execute it with a 44 magmum.  Poor little pin didn't stand a chance.

My son came up with a bunch free.  The only time I bought them was at a fun store for about a buck a piece, and I didn't want to try to score some free ones before I went shooting.

I just went into the bowling alley and asked for bad pins. They just gave me a few.

I've gotten them from the bowling alley's before.  It's not that hard, it really helps if you are with a local PD, or if you know someone who works/bowls there.  Name dropping helps avoid the money issues.

When we shoot our pins, my wife says it's *Pinocide*...

Man can they take abuse, being laminated hard maple and all...

I got five cases from a friend several years ago and I'm currently into the last case.

I shoot 'em until there is nothing left but a ragged plastic shell and sometimes the *head* is still intact.

Hang them at 200 meters and get 'em swinging.
