I guess the terrorist should have used an AK-47 instead of an M16.

------------------------------------------------January 17, 2002

Israeli Warplanes Attack Complex

JERUSALEM (AP) -

....In the earlier attack in Hadera, about 100 people were inside a banquet hall celebrating a bat mitzvah, or Jewish coming of age ceremony. Several beat the attacker with a chair and bottles and later dragged him outside where he was shot by police. Among the dead was the grandfather of the girl celebrating her bat mitzvah.

"The terrorist came in the main door with an M-16 (assault rifle) at the height of the event and started shooting everywhere," said Shimon Asraf, one of owners of Armon David or David's Palace hall.

Moti Hasson said he was dancing when he heard the shooting. "When I saw the Arab I ran toward him with a chair," said Hasson, a truck driver. "I threw the chair at him." Hasson said he hit the attacker in the face with the chair while other people threw bottles at him. Others dove under tables. Some people shouted in fright.
After Hasson hit the attacker, the man's gun jammed.

"His gun just stopped shooting," said Hasson, who was standing outside the banquet hall wearing a sweat shirt and carrying a bag of the clothes he wore during the attack, which were soaked with the gunman's blood.
Eliahu Iskov said he saw the attacker on the floor, apparently unconscious from the beating, and grabbed him by the foot to drag his body outside of the banquet hall....

Nah, he'd probably just have an out-of-battery like that yutz on CNN did a while back.

Watching the floorplate of the mag blow out, seeing him try to catch the cascading ammo was priceless!

I wish I had a vidcap of that!

Stoic,
Nope...sorry pal, he ran out of ammo. Nice try. You should NEVER believe a liberal report on a gun incident..notice how they call it an "assault rifle" in your post? Try and comprehend eyewitnesses to the tragedy.

BBC news centre 01/18/02

It started out as a celebration of a momentous event for a Jewish family, the bat mitzvah - coming of age - of their 12-year-old daughter Mina.
It ended in a nightmare, with six people dead - including the girl's grandfather - and dozens injured.

You must not die at your bat mitzvah celebration

Friend of Mina Kardushova
Some 180 friends and relatives of the Kardushov family had packed into a dance hall in the northern Israeli town of Hadera on Thursday night.

Many people were getting up to dance when a Palestinian gunman carrying a M-16 rifle burst into the building.

"He entered the wedding hall and started shooting towards the patio," one eyewitness said. "He started shooting at the people and then he began running."

Gunman overpowered

Bottles and chairs were thrown at the attacker, who was pushed outside onto the street.

"I saw he was nervous, he couldn't reload," said the girl's father Constantine. "I quickly jumped on him. Me and my brother. I hit him, then all my relatives came, all my brothers. It was chaos."

Some people did not realise that a gunman had opened fire.

"Everybody was happy and dancing... suddenly I heard loud noises and I thought the sound system had broken down," the bat mitzvah girl, Nina Kardushova told the Israeli newspaper Maariv on Friday morning.

"A man in uniform passed by my uncle and we sensed he wasn't part of the celebration. We saw that he had a weapon. We realised he was shooting at us," she said.

Case dismissed..no need to throw away an AR for a cheap AK,

I read an article specifically stating that the gun "jammed" while he was trying to change the "clip." so who knows what the hell happened

Well, I'm not saying it did jam. It's very probably that he was out of ammo. I mean, it makes more sense. It doesn't take long to empty 30 rounds through and M16. He probably just got jumped so quickly he didn't have time to reload, what with the chair in the face and all.

But IF in fact it did jam, he was probably using Wolf ammo.

my local newspaper, which I read today, also states the "M16 jammed"...  it doesn't bother me.  I do however find it AMUSING that some of u actually would blow a head gasket over it.

You're all wrong. The news straight from INA, the Israeli News Agency, is that he was shooting Wolf ammo, the lacquer melted, and the gun jammed. He was trying to ram it out with a cleaning rod when guests attacked in return.

If he did run dry this would probably add fuel to attempt to ban all high capacity magazines.  Just think of how many people would have been saved if he only had 10 rounds.

Assault rifle huh?  That all depends on where you heard it:

---------------
Hadera, Israel -- A lone Palestinian gunman walked into a crowded reception hall here late last night and opened fire with a semiautomatic rifle, killing six people and wounding at least 25, witnesses and police said.

What do you know, a part of the world where machineguns are aplenty and this guy chooses a semiautomatic rifle.[rolleyes]

Now they have audio/video of the party and you can clearly hear one short burst of MG fire.  Sucka sure pulled the trigger pretty damm fast!

Well, six dead, twenty wounded, it sounds to me like he ran out of ammo.

Kind of weird the bad guys using M-16's in Israel now.

You have to give the average Israeli civilians credit for taking such an active role as to fight such an attack as this was. If it were in the U.S., even after 9/11, Americans would hide under tables and the attacker could reload without a challenge and resume executing people.
