O M G [rolf] This is priceless. And really sad that Japanese anime movies have better & more realistic action than hollywood movies. The funny thing is that they have a whole sub-sub-culture of Otaku (rough translation: Obsessed geek) who are gun nuts. Masamune Shirow (my favorite artist, be careful googling him, he does some racy stuff) is a well known example of that trend. |

Tell me more about this Cat Shit One. The original Cat Shit One was a series of 'manga' (basically, graphic novels) from the late-'90s. It told the story of an American recon unit called "Cat Shit One" during the Vietnam War, with a twist - the characters were represented by anthropomorphic animals that indicated their nationality. Americans were rabbits, the Vietnamese were cats, etc. Apart from being animals, the weapons, equipment and violence were portrayed VERY realistically. The story itself is very dark. It's a great series, and was translated for an English-speaking audience as "Apocalypse Meow" - silly, but the series is still good and worth a read. -Mark |

Arab bad guys represented by CAMELS? Can you imagine the shit-storm of offended PC indignation if that was a US production?
Like a guy above me said, I expected lameness... and I still don't get the whole "furry" scene.... but DAMN that was uber-cool!!! |

Did you ever see the movie "The Edge" (Grizzly chasing Anthony Hopkins & Co. through the Alaskan wilderness)? Don't know if this is what the Japanese had in mind, and I don't know how true this is, but there's a scene in "The Edge" involving an Indian canoe paddle that has a painting of a panther on one side and a rabbit smoking a pipe on the other side. Supposedly it's based on an old Indian legend (forget which tribe). Basically, the rabbit is smoking a pipe because he's unafraid. He's unafraid because he's smarter than the panther. I was a little "WTF?" when I saw the US represented by bunnies, but then I thought of that legend and was cool with it. Like I said, might not be what the Japanese had in mind, but it's what came to my mind when I watched the trailer. |

The modern day Japanese making a movie about fighting a war is like the French declaring what a proud and rich heritage of winning wars they have.
