I got this framed picture as a gift today. I love it. My great grandfather was a Texas Ranger in the early 1900's so this means even more to me.
I'm not sure what kind of pistol this is though. I'm assuming some kind of .44 or .45 I'm working on getting some actual pics of my great grandfather blown up to larger sizes and having them framed currently. I believe in the pics of him, he has this same pistol and some kind of lever action rifle on his horse. Anyway,

Looks like a Ruger Blackhawk to me. The grip and medallion on the grip is identical in profile and location. I can't make out any detail, and I'm not a sixgun expert, but it looks exactly like the Blackhawk I almost bought yesterday.

Looks like a 4 5/8" barrel Colt Single Action Army. Traditionally they are in .45 Colt but were made in alot of pistol calibers from .22 to .45. The pic is fuzzy so its hard to tell if its a real Colt or a clone.

Colt SAA clone.
It looks just like an 1873 (aka P model) but the medallion is wrong. The placement is correct, but the medallion is either custom (not likely) or a clone. Hell, even the grips scream P model. But I vote clone. |

Fixed sight Crescent ejector rod Stubby cylinder pin Is the pistol the one that your grandpa carried when he was a Ranger? If its the one he carried then its probably a real Colt, if its something from later then its probably a clone. The cartidge is an .45 Long Colt, judging by the thin rim as compaired to the thicker rims that the .44s had. |

Doesn't look like a real pistol to me. |

I'm about to head to my grandmothers and will look over the pics of my grandfather and see if I can find any clear shots of his pistol and rifle. I'm a bit put off by the lack of finishing on the screws... Colts are nicely domed. A close up of the medallion might help identify it, but I'm betting knock off or fake.
