I was going to pick up a G17 next to go with my 19, but I have always had a thing for the XD45, but have never had a 45acp and have a good bit of 9mm stocked up. Anyway, a local shop had the XD45 on sale for $439 and it seems like too good a deal to pass up. So should I stick with the G17 or go with the XD45? Anyone own both? Shot both?

Let me be the 1st. Get both

I love my XD. That being said I never really liked the grip angle on the Glocks. If you are familar with the Glock ergonomics, stick with the Glock.

That's a steal for an XD45.  You can buy at the price and if you dont care for it you wont lose much at all.  It's a very low risk purchase.  I have an older XD40 I bought for my wife and it's a very respectable pistol.  I'd trade it in a heartbeat for a .45 tho.

I love my XD45 Compact 4 inch. Its a straight shooter and the grip angle is very simular to a 1911.
The capacity is hard to beat for a 45ACP motherfucking power.
I carry it everyday when I am home. I carry my 1911 when Im working as it has night nights.

You will not be dissapointed in it if you pick it up for that reat price.

It is a great price on the XD go for it, I have a 5in in .40 and love it. As others have said, I think the ergonomics on the XD far exceed those on the Glock

I have a XD45 and it is a great pistol.
13 rounds of 45 acp per magazine is the reason I bought one.

if you are on the fence, get what you already have mags for.

the price is very good, however.

EDIT:  first part makes no sense now that I re-read you post.

2x I like the ergonomics of the XD better.  IMO the XD has better safety features and it has a fully supported chamber, which is good for shooting +P ammo.

Just saw the midlength tonight at Sportsmans warehouse for I think $519 or so so I would say that is a good deal.  I really like this weapon and if I can figure out how to afford it this will be my next pistol.  The only problem wil be feeding it as I have enough trouble feeding my P95 it's steady diet of 9mm.

I've fired a friend's XD45 and liked it very much.  High bore axis compared to the Glock, but that may or may not matter to you depending on what types of firearms you're used to shooting.

+1 for the XD I bought an XD40 when they first ame out and then traded up to the 45 when they became avialable. Exellent ergonomics and 13+1 of 45acp, the trigger on mine is really sweet with a nice crisp consistent break. For the price you quoted above I'd jump on it, If you are unhappy with it you can re-sell it and probably come out even or only a slight loss.

I'm considering an XD45 also, but I'm curious, does anyone know if they plan on coming out with a XD45m?

XD's are just as ugly as Glocks and shoot just as fantastic.

Get a G21 or G30. You're already familiar with Glocks, and they're all built the same and have the same PERRRFECTION

Glocks are so easy to detail strip and customize and there are so many aftermarket parts. I don't think XD's  compare in those respects.

Last I heard the XD45m is on its way, but I have no idea what the current ETA is.

Anyway, a local shop had the XD45 on sale for $439

If this deal includes the full package, it is a very good deal. Package: carrying case, 3 mags, mag loading tool, plastic holster, and a cable lock. I got mine for $535 + tax IIRC.

Lots of dealers raid the packages and sell the accessories.

ETA

As for the pistol, it is very accurate. I can get SRH* groups at 30 feet shooting supported. And it shoots ANY factory ammo I have tried.

*SRH = Single Ragged Hole

We have an XD-45 on the legendary rental board.  It has not failed.  $439 is a good price.  It almost sounds like they got an unfired gun as a trade and they're trying to fob it off as new, but it's still a good price.

New owner of a XD45 Tactical and I like it very well.

It could turn out to be my favorite pistola.

XS 24/7 night sights going on it after X-Mas.

I shot a USPSA match with it and it ran 100%.

Get one!

Had one, liked it generally.

Bore axis over hand was a little high, so the muzzle flipped a bit more than I liked (I normally go for a 1911). You had to depress the grip safety and had to pull the trigger at just the right moment to disassemble it. This sums up the total of my dislikes about it, though. It has a proper grip angle, a grip safety, newer models have a thumb safety too.

Honestly, it was the bore axis thing that caused me to sell it. Had the bore been fractionally lower to my hand, so it recoiled like a 1911...I'd never have sold it. It (the preference) also caused me to sell a HK USP in .45, so it's purely a preference thing on my side, and not an actual problem with the gun.

I've owned several Glocks but always got rid of them because I hated the way they felt in my hand. The first time I picked up an XD, I was like.... "this is awesome!"

I've had just about every XD and finally settled on the XD45 Service model. It is with me everywhere I go.

I believe the trigger gets much better after 600 to 800 rounds or so....

Thats funny, mine did the same.  When I first got it, I was thinking that a trigger job would be a nice addition sooner or later.  But as it broke it, the trigger got a lot nicer, so I never bothered.

I had an Xd in 45, and hated it. That was me though, you might like it. It is a great gun according to most magazines and people on here

Biggest plus for me with staying with glock was the mag interchangeably.
