It's always pissed me off when people have dismissed the 'War on Terror' phrase; 'war on emotions' can't be won, etc. The only reason it exists is because people/media have such a short attention span nowadays that soundbites are the only thing that gets through.
The global 'war on non-state/state-sponsored groups that conduct terrorism against Western interests' isn't a war against an emotion, it's against a tactic, one that has limited effect. Groups like Al-Qaeda have no endgame, they have no win-condition, they literally cannot win, it's purely a matter of how long it takes, and how much it costs us to relearn that terrorism only works if you let it.
The people that perpetuate the idea that the GWOT is unwinnable are the ones who want the West to lose it.
