As almost an investment?  If Obama gets elected I can see the price of these things going way up and maybe even becoming hard to come by as the next few years goes by.  If you had the cash would you buy a bunch?

ETA 11-20-08

I SHOULD HAVE DONE IT!!!!  I could have easily sold them all for a profit!!

Why not? Build a bunch of different setups practice with a different one every day. You can always get your money back out of them. I highly doubt they are going to come and take them away from us, If they do put a friend behind all 10 or 15 of them with plenty of ammo.

10-15 ???

That would make a shitty investment IMO.
Theres way too many ARs and theres no reason to believe, at this time, production is going to stop.

Buy rare shit. ARs are anything but.

Actually, I'd buy some nice precision bolt rifles and high quality scopes with that money.

Bolt rifles are less likely to be taken away. I'd still get some AR15s though.

If you're the kind of person who is going to let them take away your AR15 then you're the same kind of guy who will not use his bolt rifle in anger, either.

If any of you are planning to turn your shit it when/if Uncle Obama requires it then at least have the decency to shut the fuck up about it. No need for your cowardice to lower everyone else's moral.

IMHO, I agree with the above.

I just don't see AR15s, as prevalent as they are, increasing in value.

Buy ammunition. For investment firearms look to: WWII or earlier 1911s, old leverguns, old Colt SAAs, or pricier and rarer modern semi-auto rifles.

If you had 15 AR-15s it would take 450 rounds to load 1 30 round mag for each. Let's round that up to 500 rounds because I'm assuming you have AR15s already.

Now AIM has a 500rd can of US 5.56 for $170.

Unless you keep them as collector's guns, it would take $170 to keep them loaded with only 1 mag per rifle. I always keep mine loaded so I cannot afford this.

I can't afford to feed a family of 6 guns let alone 21.

Make sure you have plenty of spare parts on hand for all those rifles, as well as some extra barrels. If manufacturing of new AR rifles is banned, spare parts and barrels will likely also be banned.

However, I don't see any confiscatory type ban being passed. Fuck, they didn't even try that in California! It sure as hell isn't going to fly on a national basis. About the worst thing I see happening is the 1994 ban simply being reintroduced and passed. Evil features and hi-cap mags will be what they go after yet again. A complete ban on semi-autos also won't fly. Too many semi-auto hunting rifles out there. In California, you can still have M1As, Garands and Mini-14 rifles. I find it highly unlikely that we see any laws passed on the national level that exceed what has been passed in California, the most rabidly anti-gun state in the country.

While one should always be prepared, I think some people are working themselves into a frenzy and making things out to be far worse than they really are. Buy lotsa hi-cap mags, in case a new ban shoots the price of them through the roof like last time. And buy ammo. But I don't think it is yet necessary to start rushing out and buying dozens of rifles thinking you won't be able to get them later. Because even if a new ban is passed, you will likely still be able to get AR rifles. They may not have a bayonet lug, flash hider or telescoping stock. But in all likelihood, you'll still have access to newly manufactured ARs.

Glock magazines had the biggest ROI last go around, at their peak some were going for $200 or so (10mm and 45acp mags), that's 10x increase.  AR's went up 2-3x.

High capacity pistols mags would get you more return if another ban gets passed that allows posession of pre-ban mags

Say it's September 10, 1994.  you have $1000, at $20 a mag, that's 50 mags.  Say they go to $100, that's $5000

Say it's September 10, 1994, you buy a $1000 AR15 , it goes up to $2500.  That's a measly $1500 profit

If "they" come to your home, knock on your door and say "Hello, sir. We're from the XYZ County Sheriffs Office. We're here to run a train on your wife" would you be an "Internet tough guy" for simply saying you would not comply?

There's no difference. No one here went into detail on how "I could never be killed, I'm the baddest of the bad and Charlie Bronson himself would piss the bed if I came calling".

We've simply stated that we will refuse to comply regarding gun confiscation.

If your plan is to comply then that is fine. However, as I already stated, do the rest of us a favor and keep your cowardice to yourself, sir.

You don't have to pound your chest and yell "Molon Labe!" every time the topic comes up...but you certainly shouldn't be supporting the concept of confiscation by implying that you intend to cooperate.

Yep, you can forget about glock and AR mags having any ROI.
Same goes for ARs and even stripped lowers. No ROI to speak of.
That doesn't mean don't have a stash, but I wouldn't "invest" there beyond my own needs.

Get smart. Buy mags for new shit.
The XD? Hasn't existed that long, less mags existing. Buy those.
The MSAR Aug clone, buy mags for that. Buy the bullpup too, more than likely will offer a better ROI than any AR.

Think different, because you are NOT going to see the same issues this go round.
Theres been a FLOOD of shit since the AWB expired, and hell, production of stuff never ceased during the ban either... so there really is a glut of it out there.

I beg to differ somewhat.   I lived thru the 1994-2004 AWB, I bought a bunch of hicaps, hoarded them.

As prices went up and up, I felt smug, thought about selling the extra mags for a profit.
Then I realized, if I sell these, I can't buy them back at the same price I just sold them fore, they'll be more expensive in the future.

I bought cheapie 10 rd mags so I wouldn't wear out my now expensive hi-caps.

I wanted a Glock 23 during the ban, price of the pistol was the same, but it came with 10 rd mags, I wanted some high caps to go with it so I shelled out $50-65 each for 4 total. I just ended up using the 10 rd mags that came with the gun.

5 years from now there'll be a bunch of now 16 year olds turning 21 years old and buying their first pistols (hopefully), they'll want high cap mags for their pistols.

Every year after that high cap mag demand will grow and grow

No, as I do not see firearms as an investment but as tools, and as such it would be better to own a variet of assault weapons chambered in a variety of calibers (5.56, 7.62x39, 7.62x51, etc), plus some shotguns, and pistols, and at least one sniper rifle.  You never know what kind of ammo would be available in a SHTF situation, and if you come across a crate of ammo when you run dry and see Russian written on the side, and you only own Ar15's, you are SOL.

Two is one and one is none.  How many marksman in your family?  Just me and the wife, so we have 2 AR-15s (one more would be good I'll admit).  However, if the SHTF, I'll be going with my CETME (have 2) and the wife will man the AR-15.  Thus, the lack of an "extra" AR-15 isn't that much of an issue for me.

Nice to have extra parts lying around too.  But if you're in a firefight, it's quicker to get an extra rifle into action than trying to install a pin, spring, etc.

ETA:  2 AR-15s per marksman would be good.  And get some extra parts kit and stock up on ammo/mags.

I think if you are looking to "invest" your money, there are far better ways to do so than in firearms. Right now you would be better off having cash in the bank than 15 complete firearms stuffed in your closet.

Have your firearms, and have whatever you deem enough ammo, but I wouldn't go overboard on the rifles.
