BUCKEYE -- A man is dead after he reportedly was shot in the face while target shooting.

Buckeye police officers are on the scene near Canyon Springs Road and Sun Valley Parkway.

Initial reports are that a family was target shooting and the 40-year-old man was accidentally shot.

Emergency crews got to the scene quickly, but the man died from her injuries.

3TV has a crew on the way to the scene and details will be updated as they become available.

(It says man died from "her" injuries, so I'm not sure what sex this person was.)

BUCKEYE -- A man is dead after he reportedly was shot in the face while target shooting.

Local TV news says it was a woman, self-inflicted gunshot. No details yet on why/how the gun was pointing at her eye.
The desert by the White Tank Mountains is a popular place to go shooting. Been there many times.

A glock is just as safe as any other pistol. If you really put your faith in manual safeties for new shooters, you haven't been around a new shooter for a LONNNNNNG time.

That is absolutely retarded. What are we supposed to do? Start training newbies that they should rely on mechanical safeties? Duh.

The safest gun out there is the one in the hands of the person who follows the 4 basic rules of firearms. You know, those pesky rules that ought to be taught BEFORE handing someone anything larger than a ssquirt gun?

From what I understand it depends on the model, but several versions fire with the rotation, not by a separate "firing" system... meaning if the barrels are loaded and they turn, whether by hand or by motor, they'll fire.

HOLLIDAYSBURG, Pa. September 13, 2007 (AP) The Associated Press

A military-style machine gun accidentally discharged at a gun club exhibition, killing an off-duty police officer who was working with the weapon, state police said Thursday.

A Gatling gun mounted on the back of a Hummer discharged Wednesday night during a demonstration, shooting Michael Kurty, 36, of Hollidaysburg, once in the head.

"We don't know if it malfunctioned, or if he was trying to clear it, but it appears to be an accidental shooting," state Trooper Jeff Petucci said.

More than 100 people were at the Hollidaysburg Sportsmens Club in Frankstown Township, about 90 miles east of Pittsburgh, during the shooting.

The 7.62 mm "minigun" is similar to ones used by the military on a wide variety of aircraft. It is rarely seen outside the military, said John Hageman, special agent for the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

Kurty was an auxiliary police officer in Duncansville, and also worked with the county sheriff's department. He trained officers in many local police departments and "was proficient in all types of firearms," state police said.

At the demonstration, Kurty was working for East Coast Gun Sales, which owns the gun, authorities said. The company was offering a weapons exhibition and hosting a pistol shoot and dinner for those attending a three-day conference.

An employee at East Coast Gun Sales' store in Duncansville referred questions to state police.
