Had to go to an instructor conference at Pearl River resort/casinos for three days. Located in scenic Philadelphia MS (location for filming of "Mississippi Burning), it was a stellar education of why Obama might be next POTUS. Not sure if I've never seen so many stupid people or just so many centrally located. I swear to God, gambling is an additional tax for the stupid. The abysmal dregs of our society, all smoking, drinking, oxygen cannister fed, wheel chair sitters, obese, you name it, all gathered in the aspirations of making it big. But on all fairness, they were diverse. Bounds of stupidity is not limited to age, sex, or race. Shit, the damn hotel/casinos were the only entities making money. In three days I did not spend one cent in that place.

I like casually gambling. Most I won was $300 off a penny slot machine in Vegas.

There are areas in this country...the south included where such a statement could be
entirely accurate.

Gambling....a tax on stupid people.  Thats why I love living in NV.  I do not gamble and pay not state income tax.  The tourists who drop big dollars at the casinos pay my taxes for me.   All are welcome in a Nevada casino....as long as your money is green.

Well that and a healthy dose of being fed up with the Bush administration. In my opinion, Bush is the single biggest reason we are going to get stuck with Osama. Flame away!!!

I like to play Roulette and I go with a SMALL amount of money to play with, just 50 dollars,
and I play seriously.  I play to win and I know the odds.

I also know when to take my money and walk away.

I was in Las Vegas this last April for three nights.  I made 700 bucks profit.

This is typical of my results on Roulette.

Not all gamblers are stupid, but most of them have occasional bouts of stupidity,
and I'd be lying if I said I'd never had one, myself,  but I learned my own rules
and I do OK as long as I adhere strictly to them.   When I step outside those rules,
it usually hurts.

So I don't step outside the limits of my rules.

I hate to break this to you, but Bush isn't running.
Voting for Obama isn't going to have an effect on the Bush Administration at all.

Here's how it works:
Let's say the Braves are playing the Angels in the world series.
No matter how much you hate the Yankees, rooting for the Braves isn't going to have any effect at all on the Yankees.

I drive by a lot of casinos in my area, and I'm utterly astonished at how full the parking lots are.  The whole culture is totally unappealing to me, and I'm just surprised that anyone participates in it at all.  Their money, their choice.  I'm keeping mine.  My house rules pay 100% of my spare cash to me.

Most of those people are gambling because they have fun doing it, they are retired and are easily amused, they don't have any bills to pay so they can afford to gamble, and they lead a boring ass existence where it's pretty much the only enjoyable thing they have left.

Lighten up.  Would you rather them sit at home watching TV all day, every day, until they finally kick the bucket?

Gambling can be fun. One has to know when to not gamble as well. If you're paycheck to paycheck it's probably not a good idea.
Slots and electronic machines are taking the game out of gaming however. Table games are interactive and usually social.
Expecting to lose will usually yield those results as will mindlessly pumping credits through a machine. If you feel that you may have a problem gambling or that not winning will put you down - don't go.

FWIW - the Lottery is really the tax on the poor and/or stupid.

Let's say that three people decide to take their mad money and go out for a night on the town. They budget for entertainment and spend the money on what they enjoy. All three start out with the same amount of money and all three spend every dime of it on their chosen favorite activity.

One guy takes his girl out to a dinner and movie.
One guy goes out fishing.
One guy feeds all his money into a video poker machine and wins absolutely nothing.

What makes one better or worse than the others ?
What makes it your business ?
Why does doing one entitle you to high brow, look down your nose at everyone else attitude and the others should be something to be ashamed of ?
Which one cost the most ?
Which one was the most responsible ?

I have NEVER been to a casino when there wasn't someone there smoking while hooked up to their oxygen machine. Is that as common everywhere else as it is here?

I've only been a few times, but every time, same story.

Yeah, I agree. It ain't rocket science. However, it is beyond most of the people I talk to. For example: who controls the house and senate ? Yet they seem to have no blame in any of the mess we are involved in.
If someone tells me that they are disgusted with American politics and they are going to vote for change I envision something entirely different than just voting for the other politics as usual party. That isn't change in any way, shape, or form. That is just more of the same. The same thing that has been done for the last hundred years of slow decline.
Anyone who thinks that there is some huge difference in the two major parties that is going to change everything for the better need not worry about rocket science. They arn't beyond the level of first grade science class.

Hardcore gambling (not the once-in-a-while for fun type) is a way for miserable people to escape their miserable lives.

People with chronic lung disease often need oxygen to function.
People who smoke often develop chronic lung disease.
So..............why is it worthy of mention that you see smokers on oxygen ?
It's very common, and with good reason.

If you saw obviously healthy people on oxygen in casinos, I would be surprised.
FWIW, they have a flavored oxygen bar in McCarren airport in Las Vegas. I am not sure why ?

It may not be rocket science, but the simple math seems to evade YOU.

You do realize that Jesus and John Wayne were not running in the last couple of elections, right?  The alternatives were fatboy Al Gore, and ketchup-king John Kerry.  Think things are bad now?  Imagine if one of those two socialists were running the country.

Or do you just like to bitch?
