Curious to see how many arfcommers have the same vice that I do. I use it as a real way to supplement my income making a couple extra grand every month. I keep track of all of my wins and losses, work out monthly averages, evaluate all my plays in a game during and after it, read up on lots of books, etc.

I take it pretty seriously, but more like a few hundred a month not a few grand. I'm a far better IRL player than online.

Never for money. I don't have the temperament for that type of game.

I play only with friends once or twice a month. Usually for small amounts of cash to keep it interesting. Never played online or in a casino. I guess I only like poker when it`s combained with good company and cold beer

I've been averaging about $1200 a month in extra income on poker. There was a time when I was unemployed that I made $3k+ a month for about 4 months till I went on a REAL bad run and went almost busto. Luckily I got a job a couple of weeks after that.

I play all the different forms but my favorite game is Razz.

I play every Sunday afternoon and every Tuesday evening.

Most of the time our games are 5 to 6 handed, but we've had up to 10 players before.

$20 cash game, unlimited rebuys.

Texas no limit hold 'em with the seven-deuce side bet on every hand.

I play in a monthly game, and low-level stuff online. Playing in a live satellite to the WSOP main event on Saturday - 30 players, $525 buy-in, winner gets a seat.

Best part is, I'm playing on someone else's dime.

On a side note for the poker fans Erick Lindgren won his first bracelet last night/this morning in the 5K mixed hold em event against a STACKED final table.

i have to agree. as long as one is making a wager without being in complete control of the outcome, it counts as gambling. and yes, the stock market falls into this category, too.

that said, poker is not a "game of chance". chance is only an element in a far more involved and complicated game.

Next year, I'm doing a $1000 or $1500 buyin at the WSOP in Vegas however. The $1000 tourney going on right now had 775 entrants in 2007 and the winner cashed $655,000. The smallest cash was $8000, so you made 8x your money back if you cashed in the top 75.
If I somehow cash and I cash over $11k, I'm definitely buying into the Main Event.

I used to play Texas Hold Em nearly every week, but there are no local tourneys so I haven't played in a long time. I personally hate playing online because I can't read people.

You should see his new commercial while playing at the table, someone asks him what he thinks about his critics....he jiggles his wrist and all 11 bracelets jingle and crash together and he puts his ear down to them and says, "Oh what? Whats that?"

Hellmuth and Matusow are fucking hilarious and not afraid to call out people playing shitty cards except when Hellmuth goes off on someone playing an AQ and hes got like pocket 4s and says they made a shitty call.

I would rather punch Moneymaker or Jamie Gold. Ultra-douches who won only by getting lucky. Neither have talent or skill and a part of me giggles each and every time they lose because they fucking suck. Both are one-time wonders and shows that the internet can make a player out of anyone these days.

Not alot, mind you, I only play online for micro stakes (.10/25) but I consistently lose.

Trying to get better, but it think good poker is a bit out of my leauge intellectually.

Yeah, that's the best bet for low buy-ins. I plan on maybe playing the last $1500 NLHE event this year.

Players begin with 2,000 in tournament chips. Re-Buy chips may be purchased when you are at or below 2,000 in chips during the first two hours.

1st hour blinds are $25-50
2nd hour $50-100

Then no more rebuys

Then 3rd hour starts.

I play very seriously. Live games only, no more internet BS for me. But I don't intend it specifically as a means of extra income. I play to crush people. I don't care if it's $10.00 to sit down, or $10,000.00 to sit down. My goals are the same.

i disagree with you WRT moneymaker--the guy is a solid cardplayer from everything i've seen. he caught a ton of cards in his main event win, but he played those cards very well, maximizing value and minimizing exposure.

jamie gold, OTOH, was a 1-shot wonder. after watching his win, i hypothesized that he won off of pure salesmanship. players listened to him talk, and made their decisions based on what he was selling. my prediction was that the way to beat gold was to make him a consumer of information instead of a purveyor: to ge him to listen instead of talk.

sure enough, in the last main event, the guy who crushed him multiple times and wound up busting him out did all the talking, and made gold make the decision based upon the information he heard.

gold has been soundly schooled on HSP (he was a joke for the cash game players), and couldn't cut it against a marginal table at the WSOP. ultimately, he is an extremely good salesman, but his poker skills are suspect.

that said, he won the $12million, and i didn't. so until i enter the WSOP and win, he's still better than me.

Play as much as possible, which lately isn't so much. I can go play $1/$2 no limit with some of the worst players imaginable. Unfortunately bad players get lucky also, they don't know how to lay down a marginal hand.

My bankroll sucks right now, got to build it back up. I will play most any game, but mostly low stakes.

I play seriously on poker stars and I go to Vegas about four or five times a year.

I went to Copenhagen Denmark last year on a satellite win on Pstars and we played in the European Poker Tour event.
