The oldest airplane I've flown in AND happened to have parachuted out of was a DC-3 (WWII-era C-47) during an airborne operation at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, during the late '90's.

Delta Air Lines DC-3 Ship 41...absolutely awesome restoration. Flew from JAN (Jackson, MS) to MLU (Monroe, LA-the birthplace of Delta Air Lines.) I have some awesome pictures of that trip...great one of Ship 41 in front of the MLU tower with a Delta B727 going wheels up in the background...now if I could only find that CD!

Yep, you're right. I dunno why I remember Ju33 though. Tri motor, noisy as hell. Scared the crap outta my old man! At 8 I had a good time .Though I gotta wonder if the old DC-3's "Blue goose" airlines used to puddle jump lake Michigan weren't older  .Stay safe!! S-28 |

I rode in the same old bird Shotar did. I was 12(?) or thereabouts, early 1960s. Port Clinton to Put in Bay and back. Neat old plane, the last Ford Trimotor in commercial service when it stopped flying.

40 something Piper Super Cub, Actually got to fly it a little also. The lodge had 3 Super Cubs. Also flew in a 5 Beaver that was scraped off the tundra and put back together. Great plane, .

A Stearman of unknown vintage. Open cockpit is WAY cool!!
A P-51 Mustang that belonged to an Oil & Gas Attorney friend of the family. Many years ago. The tube type radio behind the pilots seat was replaced by a jump-seat. Don't know which iteration it was but that 12 cylinder Rolls Royce engine made my balls shake for an hour after we landed. Freaking awesome!!  I also got a ride in one of the last Mitchell bombers still flying. It was being used as a retardant bomber contracted to the Forrest Service in McCall, Idaho about 15 years ago. Very cool!  |

1929 New Standard. I can still smell the oil and gasoline and wind in my face. The friggin' thing shook and vibrated like an old washing machine on spin cycle. I kissed the ground after we landed.
