Security companies are always hiring. If you want a sure job, head on down to the nearest Marine recruit depot, and they will provide for your every need. Those nice men in the Campaign Cover will answer all your questions.

Man, I feel for all you guys loosing your jobs. Guess this is one major benefit being in a Govt job. It is almost impossible to get fired or laid off from a govt job.

well, my girl friend/wife to be is a pastry chef and WAS working in new york. the interesting part, she turned down a position working at the windows on the world. a good thing too looking back. she would have been working the morning of 9-11 because there was to be a big party there that day. only the chef was not killed as he was getting his eye glasses adjusted that morning.
she said there are 15,000 out of work restaurant people in new york and she is one of them. good thing i work 2 jobs to support all of us. |

I too am currently out of a job but I did it by choice. I figured I would take 4-5 months off to relax after the past 4 years of pure hell working 70-80 hour weeks, 7 days per week and including all hours on call. I fugure on looking for a new job after the first of the year. Don't want to burn up all my savings. It will cut into my shooting fun.

There will be many more Lay-Offs coming and before its' over, many more of us will be among the Unemployed.
----------------- White-Collar Shock Stephen Roach Job loss is the ultimate cost of any recession. It is usually the last shoe to drop in an economic downturn. Typically, layoffs are triggered by the downside of the inventory cycle -- production adjustments that force companies to bring output into better alignment with subdued demand. For America, this recession may be different. Production adjustments have taken their usual toll on blue-collar employment. But there are also signs that this recession has also triggered a purging of the excesses of the New Economy -- initially a reduction of the IT overhang but increasingly a pruning of white-collar bloat. Mounting white-collar joblessness could well prove to be a formidable threat to the V-shaped recovery that many are still banking on in 2002. In the past three months, the national unemployment rate has surged by 0.9 percentage point. Of the 1.3 million new workers who have been added to the rolls of the jobless since July, fully 529,000 of them -- or about 40% of the total -- were newly unemployed white-collar workers. This uptrend has been sufficient to take the white-collar portion of total joblessness up to 39.9% in October 2001. That’s well in excess of the white-collar portion of total unemployment in the last recession -- an average share of 32.8% from August 1990 through March 1991. I'm employed, but my bride's company is going out of business TODAY!
She finds out how much severance (if any) she gets today. Gonna be a weird Thanksgiving and Xmas! Hang in there to all. I got shitcanned by Continental Airlines in 1999, and other than a truckload of Credit Card debt, we managed, you will too. "That which doesn't kill you, makes you stronger" |

I was laid off from a Houston-based energy company subsidiary that just had it's stock tank and a buyout from another Houston-based energy company [wink] on March 19th of this year, 3 days after the birth of my son, along with almost everyone else in my group. I'm assuming that's the only reason that we didn't get canned the previous Friday, because the wife and I were at the Hospital and I couldn't make their "mandatory meeting." The Infosec department was trimmed from 5 specialists/sr. specialists, 1 manager, and 1 director to 1 sr. specialist, 1 manager, and 1 director.
At this energy company subsidiary, I was in charge of enterprise-wide network security. I am well versed in various firewall packages and platforms, including Cisco PIX, Checkpoint Firewall-1, Netscreen and Cyberguard (DOD and non-DOD certified versions). I also have extensive experience with network-based Intrusion Detection Systems from ISS (we were their largest customer for IDS products) and NFR. I have project and staff management experience. I've given presentations and training to everyone from the CEO to the end user. I'm fluent in ANSI C, PERL, and shell scripting on UNIX platforms. I've written custome penetrationI have conducted internal security audits and external penetration tests on networks spanning the globe. I've hobnobbed with the likes of Dennis Ritchie, Bill Cheswick, Marcus Ranum and Linus Torvalds. I still don't have a job doing what I'm good at, which is breaking into TCP networks and UNIX systems. [:(] This year, I've held 5 jobs, and I'm now a subcontractor to a computer services company doing UNIX backup and disaster recovery for a large energy company. We in Alaska aren't as impacted with this, at least so far. Seems to be plenty of work here still. If you want a job in Law Enforcement the Anchorage PD needs people bad, also the State Troopers are hiring. And if you have skills in Telecom. my company has several openings.....
