if they could produce something as fantastically weird as Devo.  I challenge you to find a better '80s video than Freedom of Choice.

It could have been weirder. Mark Mothersbaugh:

This is the short version: We got flown to Jamaica once, Bob Casale and I. I think it was around ‘77, about three or four weeks after the Sex Pistols broke up. We’re sitting there with Richard Branson, one of the richest men in the world, and we’re all in our 20s at the time. They had all this pot, so we’re like, OK. So we’re smoking pot. And they said, “What do you guys think of the Sex Pistols?” And we go, “They’re great.” We had partied with them on the last show they did in San Francisco. We were playing at some punk club, and they were playing the Winter Palace or wherever it was. They came over afterwards and blah-blah-blah. So they go, “Well, what do you think of Johnny Rotten?” We’re like, “Oh, he’s cool, we love everything he does.” They go, “He’s here in the hotel, and Johnny Rotten wants to join DEVO. And if you guys want to go down to the beach right now, we’ve got reporters from NME, Sound Magazine, and Melody Maker and they want to do a cover story about Johnny Rotten joining DEVO.”

Johnny Rotten as a nerd rocker....

Judging by what Johnny Rotten did with P.I.L., this may not have been all that incongruous.

I'll see your Freedom Of Choice & raise you Beautiful World  Possibly the best Devo song ever.

More '80s goodness
Gary Numan ..not sure if the song came out in in '79 or 80 but the video was an early MTV staple.

Freedom Of Choice is pretty weird, but nothing really beats Peek-A-Boo. 'Course, it's all Devo.

Also: the 80s were the era of Reagan. Who was totally awesome, and a sex machine to all the chicks.

Rickrolling in an 80's video thread is about the height of stupid.

I saw DEVO in 80' on the Freedom Of Choice tour.
It was one of the best shows I've ever seen.
As weird as they are, they were a great live rock band.

devo uncontrollable urge - live
Devo "Gates of Steel" LIVE 1980

I saw Devo in concert in the early 80s.  I've seen a lot in my life - but I count that night as one of the bizarre experiences I have ever had.  The audience was a freakshow of its own.

I'll add another from the 80's.  Danny Elfman made good with all the HollyWeird soundtracks he ended up doing. Guy is very talented and a little off in the Devo kind of way.
Oingo Boingo
and who could forget
Talking Heads

The 80's rocked.

Whip It

the '80s were COOL; I miss them.  C'mon, music like this, Reagan pasting Khadafi's tents, "Tear down this wall!", exhilarating times to live in.

I'm a Devotee, got all their albums on CD, even some weirder ones.

during the 80's electronics were pretty wimpy, but the CD did come out in 1986.  VHS still ruled as did 4:3 SDTV.

Cars were wimpy, even so called sports cars.

The 1989 import ban didn't happen till 1989 when most of the 80's was already over.  HK94's could be had for $400 or so.

There was no internet, that kind of sucked.
