So I get a collection notice from some lawyer.

It seems that Corpus Christi wants to collect $44.20 and a plea.  Because they have an "outstanding case against me."  From freaking May.  Which I already paid.  And for which I already plead.

Way back in May, I got a ticket for going 6 mph over the limit on the highway.  I sent in the money and checked "no contest, I wish to take driver safety course."  You know, so my insurance rates wouldn't go up.

I wait and wait and wait for them to send me info on where to go and what to do to take the course. Nothing ever comes and I forget about the whole thing.

I seriously doubt they're going to drop the case against me (even though I already paid them the freaking money from the ticket) but how can I be assured the brain dead clerk won't fuck up AGAIN?

Right now I'm thinking big neon-colored folder that says "Don't lose me, ASSHOLE!"

Ok, this is more of a rant and not really a request for advice.  CC is only an hour drive. I think maybe I should drive the check down to them in person and make them SHOW me the process of taking my name off of their fucking computer.  I'll be sure to use really small words.

eta: Ok, I guess I do have a question.

Is it normal to 5 months on an "outstanding case" with no warrant filed?

Man that sucks.

When I was in Dallas (Coppell) this summer I drove how I normally do: speed limit to maybe 10 over depending upon conditions and location.  I didn't have a problem.

6 over in a 60 mph zone.  On SPID (South Padre Island Drive) which is the highway that runs down the "T" of Corpus Christi down to the waterfront.

It has 65 mph zones as well, and I thought I was in one of those.  The stop took kind of a long time and made me late for class.  With an instructor that really hated tardiness.

Kind of set the tone for the whole day.

You dont? This is "SOP" in Idaho.

Nope not here, you have to be seriously fucking up going at least 10 over and weaving in and out of traffic.

hooray for Orygun:  the speed limit is 65, you're going 75, and everyone is giving you dirty looks because you are driving so damn slow.

You can go 15 over in Wisconsin and be relatively safe...usually thats what the flow of traffic is in the left lane.

I don't know if the speed limit is still 60 on I-29 and I-80 in Iowa. You'd be tooling along at a comfy 77 in MO, and have to really haul it in crossing into IA. Pain in the ass.

A county Sheriff's deputy put it to me like this:

"9 you're fine, 10 you're mine...but most of the time I don't give a shit as long as people don't do anything stupid. I hate pulling people over for speeding."

State cops on the other hand...

HA! That looks exactly like where I got paced.

Come to think of it, that looked exactly like ALL of the part of Texas I drove through.

I-84 posted speed is 75 you can do 80-85 all day, most county roads you can travel 10 over. Now the small towns is a little different they need the $$$$. But not all of Idaho.

Usually keep it a hair under 90...
Keep it under 75 on the back roads.

Only place the speed is really enforced is in town.

Get your cancelled check proof ready. Send the copy in with a letter. It usually put an end to that shit..
Big business and gov always over bills , its their way of saying "maybe we will get more money from sheeple , and we can get away with it "

Its even better than I thought...

This is from back in FEBRUARY.

I found a copy of the check on my bank statement... 96 bucks.  So I guess I can safely assume they cashed it.

Seriously, if this was "unresolved" as they claim, how come I didn't get a warrant out for my arrest?  Its been 10 months!

You got busted in S. Padre?  Never been there, but that has to be something like Kemah, where they get people from out of town and write them BS tickets because they know they won't come back to fight it.

1Andy2,

You might want to check in with your motor vehicle division or whatever its called in Texas to make sure that your license is valid. Just in case. Some courts can suspend your drivers license via the MVD for not complying with orders or not showing up. Then through some screw up you don't get the notification in the mail.

Usually its the fault of the license holder for not updating his address after moving but nevertheless it can be a royal PITA.

No, that's Corpus.  He's lucky that they didn't shoot him by accident.

ETA:

And yes, you should have gotten in contact with them.  Before you drive down, make sure that you don't have a warrant.

No excuse.

But my position will be that they're at fault for not providing the info I requested with their own form.
