Police believe this surveillance photo taken early Friday morning show the suspect's car. (AP) As the investigation into the shooting death of a BSO sheriff’s deputy stretched into its third day, Broward County Sheriff Ken Jenne appealed to the public for help.

“I’m here for one purpose, and that’s to talk to the people of Broward County and South Florida,” Jenne said at a news conference at the BSO district office in Pompano Beach Sunday afternoon. “I’m asking as your sheriff for your help. Right now, someone knows something and someone has some information that they need to give to us.”

So far, more than 500 tips have come in and investigators are working on a 24-hour schedule to run down leads. But Jenne said the case is likely to be solved by a tip from the public.

“This case is going to be solved by someone in Broward County, someone in South Florida, picking up the phone and giving us a tip.”

Much of the investigation is focusing on a white car with which the suspect or suspects are thought to have fled.

Police have been on a statewide manhunt since Friday when Broward Sgt. Chris Reyka was gunned down outside a 24-hour Walgreens in Pompano Beach about 1 a.m. The sheriff’s deputy was an 18-year law enforcement veteran and a father of four. Authorities said he was checking the license plates of two suspicious cars to see if they were stolen. One was, and officials think its passengers shot at Reyka, hitting him at least five times.

“If you know someone who has a white car or if you have a white car and don’t know where it was during that time, you need to tell us,” Jenne said.
