Wow, never heard of one running bad that couldn't be resolved.
I've got 4 that I swap in and out and can't tell one from the other in regards to performance/reliability.
The only problems I've had were 2 broken rear spring/tabs, and both were caused by the rear screw backing out, which I now lock-tite on principle.
Most any other issue I've heard of were resolved with some combination of:
- reprofiling or replacing the firing pin
- replacing the main spring
- polishing the guide rail
- polishing the chamber/replacing the 'barrel' insert
- running it pretty 'wet'
Like many 22lr conversions, they do seem to enjoy having the occasional OOB kaboom... and the couple I've had so far, after the smoke and cussing clears the air, haven't caused any actual damage yet.
Mine are also force fed el cheapo Rem Golden bullets and do well on it.
I usually run them in one of 2 dedicated uppers, both based on CLE barrels, which eliminate the m261's barrel adapter, but they seem to run just as happily (if slightly less accurately) in normal 5.56 uppers.
