So, I got a new teapot, the kind you put expensive whole leaf tea in and boil right up in the pot.

Its got the little whistle thing like any other.

Only I loaded it wrong and a tea leaf got up there in that little whistle thing. Its really the only pressure release, other than the "press fit" style lid.

So I'm in the other room and I hear . . .

KABOOOOM!!!!!

And now I'm cleaning up everything in a 20 foot radius.

Bloody fucking hell.

OK, its cleaned up.

The camera wasn't at the condo, so I didn't get any pics.

The teapot is still in one piece, but is deformed at the top lid location.

Looks like this is what happened:

That vent got plugged resulting in a build up of pressure. Pressure, of course, raises the boiling point of water. So the water got a LOT hotter than regular boiling temperature. Then the lid started to pop off restoring regular atmospheric pressure and the entire contents of the pot boiled all at once. As in instantly. It was what you would call a steam explosion. It was loud enough to create a "boom" sound, and the little lid made a mark on the ceiling. I'm very lucky not to have been in the vicinity.

Bloody fucking hell.

Damn! I remember when I was in college, my mother bought some drinking glasses from Cost Plus that were made in France and that would explode out of the blue.

The glass must of had some sort of internal pressure problem, because they would explode just sitting in the cabinet or on the kitchen table empty, at room temperature. They had a very heavy base, and we figured there was some sort of pressure in the glass in the base. That was freaky, They shot glass across the room.

You need to only use factory loaded tea, its not a design problem because the 9mm teapot doesnt have that problem.

What are you using it for? To dye something I hope.

Boiled tea tastes horrible, if you can even taste anything other than the bitter taste.

I don't know about you but I always boil the water first then pour it in a pitcher with the tea/tea bags.

Indian (as in India) tea.

That's how its done with this stuff.

Some uses of this tea even call for doubling down on the leaves and boiling it in MILK.

Wow that's pretty wild gonzo. Probably should contact the mfg.

I love iced tea but hot tea is the sux.

Had my wife get me one of these for my birthday a few years ago and I friggin LOVE it. I drink about a gallon of tea a day so this makes it easy to keep up.

Highly recommended
