I just last weekend purchased a Panther 16". I was ging to wait until next year because I want to go prairie dog hunting. Got a little carried away in light of recent events and bought it early. The question is how accurate will this rifle be at 100, 200, 300 yards? Should I have gotten a 20" barrel?

You need a photo hosting service to upload them to. Webshots is good. www.webshots.com
once uploaded copy the url and insert.
This will tell you how to post the pics after you have them uploaded

DPMS makes a nice rifle!  The 16" is praticle for most uses of a defense rifle and fine for small game rifle.  20" would be a better hunting unit.  But, hey, it's easy easy to change the upper.

OK H112 I must be retarded. I went to the webshots site, set up an account, loaded pics. Then went to the ar15 help site and got totally confused as you can see. Not much instruction there.

The nice thing about AR's is that it's a cinch to change uppers if the one you currently have doesn't suit your current needs. Keep the 16".

Ain't nothing wrong with a 16" barrel. A buddy of mine's shot half inch groups at a hundred yards, on a bench and sandbags of course.DPMS also puts out some nice uppers. Don't worry, ya did fine.

Armalite and Bushmaster both retail for high 900 to 1000+ I paid $775 for my M15A2 and thought that was OK compared to what was going around at the time. The bottom line is Do you like it? Do you think you got a good deal? Then you did!

Oh By the way. It was my mistake in the first place but they are called "womenz" on this forum. I used the word girlfriend so as to not confuse a junior member.

I've got mine set up with a Lepould 3.5x10 Vari-X III. I was shooting p-dogs in western Colorado earlier this year and it worked out fine. I let my dad use my 6.5x20, he told me I would get it back by inheritance. You need a good scope to see the action. It's all about the drama and hang time. [sniper]

the difference between a 16 inch barrel and a 26 inch barrel is 125 fps. that is the ONLY difference. the longer the barrel the more velocity due to the better burn of the powder.
be happy with the 16 inch.

If you have the means put a Trijicon TA-31F on it and roll on!! That is an awesome setup, aims fast and crystal clear.  www.swfa.com has them. Well worth the money!

Check out the Lower Brule Indian Reservation in South Dakota.

We usually go in the middle of the summer. When the ground gets wet in that area even the indians avoid it.

Check around before you head out, some areas have become protected ie: The Badlands, p-dogs are natural prey for black footed ferrets and they are trying to build the ferret population back up, therefore no hunting allowed.

I wanted to make sure I had a rifle that will hit targets over 100 yards. After I got it I found this site and was seeing comments about short barrels not being as accurate.
Link Posted: 9/29/2001 7:15:53 PM EDT

short barrels are just as accurate as long barrels. they just don't go as fast and that hurts you at longer distances. 350 yards and further. shorter barrels are "stiffer" and have less "whip" to them.

Then could I just use hotter ammo to make up for the loss of fps, or does it even matter?

Not a good idea to increase beyond max loads. It doesn't matter that much. The Pdogs will be just as dead when a 40gr V-max hits them going 3100 fps vs 3250 fps.
