I took up teaching hunter education. I am observing a class this week in preparation to become a certified instructor.
So tonight was gun night. We teach the basics...Safety rules, basic gun handling, shooting techniques and gun actions. So one of the instructors is going through the basic gun actions. He is showing the basic fudd guns...lever action, bolt action, etc... After he is done, he whips out an AR15 and a 30 round clip  "CAN YOU HUNT WITH THIS???" Some kid spouts off..."it looks all GI Joe and stuff" "YES, you CAN HUNT WITH THIS" "WHAT CAN YOU HUNT WITH THIS???" A discussion ensues about the type of game comonly hunted with a .223 Then the instructor adds..."It looks scarry, but it is NO DIFFERENT than this (holds up a Remington Nylon 66 .22)" Score one for the good guys  |

I always like watching the kids break out their single shots and Marlin Papoose rifles on gun night.

 CZ 527 Varmint Kevlar with Nikon Monarch 6.5-20x40 AO vs. Bushmaster XM15 16" A3 carbine with EOTech. I shoot the exact same cartridge through both of them. One gets me called a "sportsman" and the other a "terrorist" (by some people). Funny thing... I'm neither

The bolt gun makes you a "sniper" While he was showing the AR, some kid raised his hand... "My daddy has one of those and the barrel gets hot after you shoot a lot" I discussed the whole Zumbo thing with the other instructors... They were happy with what happened to him. |

Are there a lot of kids in the class ?
I use to also teach this in my state years ago. I really enjoyed seeing all the Dads bring there 13 year old's there to begin hunting. |

The class is mostly kids ages 10 and up. The classes fill up quickly, I might add. Range day is tommorow...that should be fun. |

Can they hunt at 10 in ID with a guardian? Enjoy it, I think your going to like it

They can hunt small game at age 10.. Youth small game licenses. Licenses to be issued only to qualified persons who are residents of the state of Idaho and are ten (10) or eleven (11) years of age to hunt upland game birds (including turkeys), migratory game birds, cottontail rabbits, pygmy rabbits, and unprotected and predatory birds and animals of this state while accompanied in the field by an adult licensed to hunt in the state of Idaho. |
