I thought the m1 carbine was select fire but maybe I am thinking of the later models??

or am I way off.

are these just semi or converted back to semi?

An admirable dream. They'll probably hit the market around the same time that all those pre-86 government M16s are surplused, sent to CMP, and added to the NFA so that lowly civilians like us can buy them. You should be able to buy one any day now.

The idiots wouldn't even surplus out M14s-even when it was shown that it was easy to convert them to semi auto.

I think that the M1 carbine was changed over to a M2 carbine by GIs using their shoe strings.

Many, including my Dad, had one in the years following WWII.  He converted it and got rid of  it.

You are way off.

The M1 carbines are semi-auto only.

A descendent of the M1 carbine, the M2 short rifle is a fully automatic weapon. There were lots of M1 carbines produced for WWII, but nowhere near as many M2s produced in Korea and later years.
