GB,

You might as well be speaking in binary.  Try telling them that the virus will delete all of their pornography, that should get some attention.  [:P]

If you don't already have Norton on your PC/laptop, go out & get it RIGHT NOW, as Macaffee sucks.

Avoid Microsoft products like Outlook and IIS and you are practically immune to these things.

Yeah, that bug is real nasty.  It shut us down for 6 hours today while the IT's waited for an update at McAfee.  It propagated itself into every shared computer on the LAN and "tried" to send a log file of all our systems to some unknown server.  Never seen the IT's get their panties so bunched up before, they didn't like it one bit.

Spider's absolutely correct as to getting Norton Anti-Virus NOW if you don't have it already; the sarc.com website is also worth a bookmark.

I'll bill a ton of money this week to clients who use MicroSoft Outlook, who don't regularly update their virus files (a no-brainer), and who open any fvcking attachment that comes in with an e-mail...it's money people would save (not to mention a lot of time down the tubes) if some of them had 1/2 the brain God gave a goose.

I don't use anti-virus software and I have never been hit (well not via email).  Of course I don't use Outlook and IIS either.

This one really sucks.

I got called at 22:00 local to start checking and patching. Didn't get done till 01:00. Got paged at 07:00 saying that some of the machines to be verified.

Only had one server in my area that was affected. Apparently it got infected before I patched the system. But now... the system has been shut down untill we find a way to clean the system and bring it back to a secure state.

Apparently, an affected system has had a whole bunch of security alterations on it. You can remove the virus, but the system is no longer secure. We were told to just scrub the system and rebuild. I can't accept that (along with other admins). I am on break now to get food, and sleep and think of solutions. I am brain dead right now... I have been on so many conference calls, fielding questions, reassuring others that their data is still there, etc. Man I need a new job.
