No, and I suspect most of them have better grammar than you do, too.

WTF?

Serious answer:  They have intermarried with 'white' Australians and their offspring are fertile.  So they must have the same number of chromosomes.  All humans can  breed with each other regardless where they are from.  That's what makes us all the same species.  Hope that helps.

Just asking because some heathen at work claimed this was proof of evolution. I told him he was wrong but I don't know enough about Aborigines people to dispute his claim.

Thanks for your answer. I will tell my coworker this the next time I see him.

As a person who believes in evolution that is

a)bullshit
b)not proof

Strike him with something heavy.

we share 95% of our DNA with chimps...a guess a little goes a long way, besides I was drunk, so it doesn't count.

Slightly OT:  Chromosome number and intelligence are unrelated.  Corn, for instance, has 10 chromosomes whereas sturgeon have either 120 chromosomes or 240-260 depending on the species.  There is no reason why a human species with fewer chromosomes couldn't be more intelligent than homo sapiens.

For anyone that is really curious about chromosomes in australian aboriginal peoples, there is a very specific research study that was published in 1999

Vandenberg, van Oorschot, Tyler-Smith and Mitchell (1999). Y-CHROMOSOME-SPECIFIC MICROSATELLITE VARIATION IN AUSTRALIAN ABORIGINALS, Human Biology, vol. 71, (6): 915-931.

People study stuff like that, and mitochondiral DNA mutation rates in order to estimate when the aboriginal people migrated to Australia.
