AUCTION ENDS 10-27 AT 5PM CST
ETA: The Pot has been sweetened, see pg. 2 near the bottom.

ETA: Auction is re-opened as of Tuesday 1pm.
Last bid was $500.00 by bigsapper. Ignore the closing posts, it is open again.

This is a Challenge Coin I got from one of the Marine Corps Helicopter pilots that flies the President in Marine One.
This baby is RARE!!!!
The Squadron is HMX-1.
( I had to drink a bunch of Jaegermeister shots to win this baby and it is a prized possesion.)

The coin is to be auctioned with proceeds going to Eric The Hun's Memorial Fund. This will probably bring in more than I can donate at this time. And the winner will have a RARE challenge coin!

Whoever wins is to send funds to Mrs.Gloftoe. I will pay shipping (insured).

ETA: Please bid here in the thread.

The coin itself is pictured below. It is 2 inches in diameter, made of pewter and is in spotless shape. ( I don't carry it around in my pocket or anything)

One side has the Presidential Seal, and the other depicts the 2 types of helicopters flown by the Presidential Helicopter Squadron(HMX-1) with the White House in the background.

This is a killer coin for Marines especially!  Semper Fi!    RIP ETH.

Auction ends whenever bids stop. (lets say about a week or so ballpark)

Posted in GD so everyone can bid on it.

I expect some Marines or former Marines to bid on this!!! Have it in time for the Birthday Ball!!!! You will be the envy of all the other jarheads at the Ball!!!!

With the H-3 bout to be retired and replaced by the US-101 (whatever H-designation it is) the coin will soon be even more of a collector's item as well.

Can I ask what happened to the "week or so ballpark" before the auction ends?

You started the bidding at 1:05 pm CDT and ended it at 8:20 pm CDT...the same day!

Do you realize that some of us have restricted access during certain hours?  Why not let it run for at least 24 hours?

You could have raised much more money if you didn't pull the trigger so quickly.

If you had let the auction run a week, I believe you would have raised a lot more money.  I know if I had the chance, I would have paid much more.

No need to apologiz to me.  Your item is something that almost everyone on ARFCOM would never have a chance to get, and you pulled the plug in about 7 hours.  Most of ARFCOM never had a chance to see the auction.

My message is that you could have made much more money than you did.

You didn't piss me off in any way.

You specified a week or so for bids and closed the auction in 7 hours!

I can only ask why?

The ARFCOM lighter took many days to get where it was at (I think, at least a week).  You had $500 in 7 hours and you closed it off?  I just don't understand.

This is the worst case of premature ejaculation I have ever seen!

I can understand that you thought $500 was a lot...but why not give it at least a few days, even though you said a week, to see what happens?

I have no real desire for the coin, because i do not covet such things.  I just think it could have raised at least double the funds, if more people were able to see the auction.

Hey guys, I just logged on.
Bigsapper said to open it back up.
Any bids higher are welcome.
Bigsapper is a great guy to do this, as it was my mistake etc.
OK

Last bid was $500 from bigsapper.

I will keep this auction open until Friday, (Oct 27) afternoon at 5 pm CST.
A big heartfelt thanks to bigsapper for being a good sport.

Let er roll.

Again, sorry for my screw up on this.

'salright, kid.

With the ability of this coin to win almost any 'challenege' the value in free drinks should make it bring even more.  The fact that the funds help ETH's granddaughter's education makes it even better!

Any funds collected after that will be sent to teh family as well.  I have been given account/routing numbers from teh family to use for any direct deposits.  MrsG will be provided with this information as well.

The Pot has been sweetened. See Below:

After all the noise about closing this auction Monday evening, and then re-opening it... we better see at least 2 more bids!

It isn't fair to bigsapper to be such a good sport and then no one is bidding....

Come on it is for a great cause! I will sweeten the pot on this one and include not only the Challenge Coin, but will throw in a Vintage Puma knife if the auction gets at least $200.00 more in bids.

The knife being thrown in is pictured below. It is a Puma Hunter's Pal model #6397, handmade, stag handle and the leather sheath is in perfect condition as well. The knife was manufactured in 1967 and is in perfect shape. The knife has a value of approximately $300-$350.00.

Get the fund at least $200.00 more than the last bid of $500.00 and the knife goes with the coin! This is a very nice knife handed down to me in a collection from my dad.

I think both items packaged together like this can hit close to a grand for the ETH fund.
For some reason I feel like the guys on the home shopping network..... come on... more bids are in order.

Challenge Coin AND Knife, together... A Nice Set!!!

ETA: Last bid was $500.00 by bigsapper.

ETA: The coin is in the first post with pics and description etc,

Thanks KangarooAR-15A3. I'm glad I was able to do something of benefit to Wayne's memory. And I appreciate you stepping up to the plate with this offering. (Despite your internet social life )

I hope that no one will object to me offering it to my local VFW Post to use as a fundraiser. I'm certain that a Marine will end up with it.

KangarooAR-15A3, if you would, please IM a more detailed story of how you got this coin so I can preserve the history of it.

Thanks.

It's great how this coin has already benefitted one person(ETH's memory) and will hopefully continue to do so in the future.
Like I said..... It's a LUCKY coin!

I would have made a bid, only if someone had outbid Bigsapper.  It would not have been right for me to take it from him.  I really thought there would have been more bids, especially after the knife was added.  Sorry for my part in delaying your auction.  I never said to re-open the auction, I just said you ended too early.

A few weeks ago I made a generous donation to the ETH Fund, and tonight for my penance, I made another generous donation via PayPal to Mrs. G.

Mrs. G can verify.

I received the coin today. Thank you very much Matthew for your generosity both wiith the coin as well as the story.

I hope the coin and the story will continue to generate as much luck after I present it to the Post Commander of the Casey Joyce All-America VFW Post #4380.

God Bless Wayne.
