I bought a Netgear router about four months ago that's been nother but a headache. I called their "support" and got the run around. I have updates drivers, restated it about a hundred times and still giving me grief. I've had it with this POS.
So, what do you guys use with success, D-Link, Linksys, fill me in  .

I have a linksys and its worked great for me. Had to find the right channel initially and their online live help is great. Get the one with 2 antennas on the back(mine is a wrt54g?) I havent looked at them for awhile there might be something even better out but mine works great and was around $60 a year ago.

are you sure its not an ID ten T error? just make sure its a problem with the hardware and not with how your setting it up
 whats the exact problem even? |

My linksys WRT54G has been running problem-free 24/7/365 for over 3 years now. It helps that my cable modem is also linksys.

I just upgraded my Dlink yesterday. Picked up a WBR-2310. Easy to setup and running like a dream.

Apple Airport Extreme. I've tried a dozen other models and not a one of them worked well. Out of the five Airports I have and the around four dozen I've setup, only one has locked-up once in the past 18 months I've used them. It was ok after cycling the power. A customer of ours had the same problem with the garbage mass-market wireless equipment and bought Cisco Aironet 1200's. Those work well, but they're $600/each. Don't bother with the garbage you see for sale at Best Buy. I've tried them all.z

D Link DI-624 has run 24/7/365 for the last 4 years.
No problems at all. LinkSys are as very good quality. |

My wife uses Netgear at her house, and I use Speedstream (I think made by Siemens) at my house. Both have had no significant problems over the years that we have used them.

Ive had excellent luck with the new D-link's. They are fast and have many options.
Try to get a new N type. They are amazingly fast, faster than hardwired lan. |

I got the same one, ditched it cuz it gave me all sorts of trouble. it wouldn't let me go on some sites, like if i went straight from modem to computer, all was right w/ the world, but if i plugged it through the router first, no ARFCOM, no Yahoo sports. mega sucked. took me like 3 months to figger out that was what was giving me problems, cuz it didn't do that at first.... really friggin annoying, not it sits in the basement. |

Linksys WRT54G. As long as it works. Don't be afraid to take yours back and get a replacement if it doesn't. Every once in a while I run into a crap one, but if you get a good one it'll run like a champ.

My USRobotics would lock up daily until I put it in a location behind a UPS. Been Ok since them. I think minor power fluctuations lock it up.

yep when i worked at radioshack, we sold d-link, netgear, linksys and vonage. personally (and from what more customers come in for) i choose linksys. it works very well. if you do get it try to get the range expander one or the SRX? i think thats the newer one that came out but im not sure, i could be wrong so dont shoot me! lol. i had the older one without range expansion and that worked great. i could only imagine what good help the newer ones will do
 to be honest, i dont know how well dlink, netgear, or vonage really is so dont disregard them. try some research on them too.

I bought a Linksys that was dogshit, so good luck. It was extremely slow connected directly and dropped out all the time. POS all the way. I ended up taking it back and not getting another one. I went back to my old Netgear, which is troublesome, but miles ahead of that supposedly faster Linksys.

I've fought Linksys routers before, damn thing just would not work... 2nd one is not impressing me either.
However, I ran a Linksys at my house (non wireless) without many problems, except for a week where it blanked the IP address daily. I've had fairly good luck with Netgear, run one at my parents house without any problems. However, we did have some that shit the bed and wouldnt work straight out of the box. had a customer whose D-Link router just shit the bed, while he was working online. Good luck, Im not real sure the names mean much... maybe the money you spend on em improves the quality. |

I have had headaches with Linksys and D-link. The best routers I have found are Netgear. Never a problem. Just plug them in and BINGO! I have recomended them to friends and family. Everyone who has one loves it. |

I just ran across this while looking at other things, I have found TomsHardware to be a great source of info.
Linksys Wireless BTW, every piece of network gear I own is Linksys, all hard wired. But it seems they might be havin problems in the wireless area. |

I have used Linksys a couple times. My house used to run off my brother's cable modem. This was through two stucco wood framed/drywall walls, and a cinderblock wall, through/around the kitchen and his gunsafe--easily 50 yard shot. Neither of our wireless phones seemed to be an issue. No boosters, or extended antennas, either. I usually would have 1 bar away from a full signal.
Netgear sucks, BTW.

No, because I don't know what your talking about The problem is, the signal strength is low most of the time and kicks me off, then it finds a neighbors unsecured router. I have tried moving around the router, but their is only so far I can go with it. It worked fine for the first month, after that I it was down hill. |

+1 to the apple airport extreme! I have 3 macs and 2 pc's connected on one airport and have not had a hitch in over a year!! I couldn't be happier or ask for more!
