Doing rental trucks that I drive myself is gonna cost about $2,500 per truck and I'm gonna need two.
$5,000 for 4 days of driving myself and all my crap a couple states over. I could buy a car for that.  There has to be an easier way. |

That's nuts! I'm moving 1 city over next month - they pack/move everything. All I do is drink beer and watch - gonna cost me $425.

Yeah, it would cost about $2,200 each and I'd need 2. I'd also have to worry about not being with my stuff and who knows how those guys drive. Would have me about $500 but jesus that is what the entire move should COST. |

Work comped me for my relocation.
I had a 1 bedroom apartment. 1 room, I didn't use, but to store books and random other shit. Cost them around 8k to move me, from NJ to MN. Note I really didn't have jack shit other than books, 2 desks, my dvd player, amp, speakers, tv, and a couple computers...futon, and office chair. So, yah..moving is pricy. |

A story about my move.
None of the rental places could provide a trailer to tow my Xterra so I decided to bite the bullet and make TWO trips since that's how much crap I had that would fit in a 6x12 U-Haul trailer behind the Xterra. I can't STAND the idea of some strangers moving everything I own cross-town, much less cross-country. Anyhow, the U-Haul website quoted almost $1,500 one way for a 6x12 from San Diego to Montana so down to San Diego I go, rent the trailer, load up and head out. Everything goes fine and I drop the trailer off up here and the guy at U-Haul nearly has a heart attack when he sees what I paid. Turns out they charge based on where you're coming from according to him. I tell him I have to bring up another load and he suggests I rent the trailer here in MT and deadhead back to San Diego with it. I'm a bit incredulous to say the least, until I asked him for a quote. "Oh, for a week or so, around 250-300 bucks. We do it all the time like this."   I ended up getting the trailer from another U-Haul shop in town since he was out the day I left. I got the 6x12 trailer for 9 days and it cost me around $250 including insurance. So, to recap: One way 6x12 tralier from San Deigo to Kalispell (6 days allowed) = ~$1,500.00 Round trip 6x12 trailer from Kalispell to San Diego (9 days allowed) = ~ $250.00

Bastards...I just did the trip in reverse and it was about $500.00  Too bad it is gonna be one way. I did manage to save a bit of money by going to the nearest major city a state over. Best I can do and the 3 hour drive each way will save me over $1,000. |

What truck rental company?
I just checked rates (looks like I'm moving to the other side of the state for a job). For me: 1 truck 16' should about work (not too much junk). Penske quoted $700 (most of the time in May), and U-Haul went $210 for the same trip/time period. When we moved from Richmond to Chicago for me to go to school, the Penske truck was cheaper by a little bit for a larger truck. AFARR Just a thought--Penske gave UNLIMITED mileage & Uhaul limited the mileage. Wonder if you could find a Penske place in a low demand area near you, rent the truck there, bring it home and then drop it off at your final destination. |

IF you are going to pay cash and your moving north. If your able to load a truck in a 24 hour time. Contact me and I can point you in the right direction for a truck that will cut your cost in half. It would be a 53' van if you can get that to your house with out blocking traffic. The bed of the truck would not have a ramp. But if your able to make that work contact me and I know I can cut that price in half for sure! |

I moved my grandparents about 250 miles 1.5 years ago. I think the UHaul cost around $150.
I can't imagine paying money like that to move. Thankfully all of my moves have been less than 15 miles. |

It ain't even the distance, it's the destination. I did the same trip in reverse with the same two trucks and it came out to around $500. A difference of $4,500 for the same two trucks going the same distance. |

Things of family memories, heirlooms and photo albums are keepers...
Alot of your furniture could be replaced for less than it would cost to move it...sort it out If you have clothes that you haven't worn all year, sell 'em or give them away. you can cut that down quite a bit. That sounds pretty pricy for a truck..is that Uhaul? |

It's all about where they need the trucks. I did the largest budget truck from Vegas to So. Cal. , price was $250 for 3 days and 300 miles. I priced the trip in reverse and it was around $1500. They needed the truck in so. cal. so why not make the price low so you choose them and move the truck for them. They obviously didn't need trucks in Vegas. |
