Just spent a day in Manchester, England. There were spectacular northern lights most of the way across the North Atlantic. After we landed, I went wandering around looking for lunch. Turned a corner and there's A ROMAN FORT. Stuff over there is literally ten times older than here. And they've done a much better job than us about not burying their history under strip malls and tract housing. Ended up eating in a pub that dates back literally to the middle ages. It was a trip that not even the burned-out, bitter, bag-lady flight attendants could ruin.
