I prefer the Glock 19 (9mm) for concealed carry. Here's why:
Lightweight High capacity Reliable Consistent (though not great) trigger pull 9mm loaded with good, modern hollow points is a very good performer |

One of reasonable size and capacity that fits your hand, that you shoot well and of a sufficient enough caliber. Think 9mm/.38spl as a base line. |

Any gun that YOU like and can shoot well, is extremely reliable and comfortable to wear 24/7 if need be is that gun.
I mostly carry my PPK/s, but will carry my Model 66 2 1/2" at times, and my Kimber 1911 at times. Weather is the most determining factor. If I'm just headed outside, my shooter Model 36 goes in my pocket. The MOST important thing is having one that you'll have on you at all times, so make sure you're comfortable wearing it. HH |

a 9mm gets a bad rap because most people see the number 9 and the number 45 and think wow thats soo much bigger, but the 9mm is a 35caliber and it expands on avg of half an inch or 50cal, the 45 expands to 70caliber and if you would view the diff it's a lot less than you would think, the 9mm in a hollow point even wwb 147gr jhp will expand to half an inch go about 13 inches. Per shot you could say the 45 is a more leathal round but we're talking about incapasitating(sp?) someone not killing them, they drop people at the same speed |

6 months ago my reply would have been a Colt .45
Now I like the H&K USPc .40 just as well CCW the USPc is lighter & holds more ammo.... I can trust the Colt 100%, I've never had one fail!!! and they both fit perfect in my hand.... so for t-shirt & jeans I take the H&K Dress-up calls for a Colt!! It's all in what YOU can shoot & feel comfortable with!! |

HoustonHusker has it right. Thuban’s first rule of gunfighting is “Always bring a gun.” A tiny .25 auto in your hand beats a .45acp locked up in your gun safe every time. I carry a 1911 when I can get away with it and like my 9mm Taurus for hikes in the woods. (The large magazine might actually be useful for suppressive fire in that situation.) But neither one is really easy for me to carry concealed unless I’m wearing a jacket. And I sure can’t do it during Alabama summers. I’ve never shot one but I’m thinking about getting one of the small Kahr 9mm pistols, just because they would be easy to carry under a loose shirt. (with a good holster.) This would probably be a good choice for you. assuming the pistol fits your hand. Which brings up another point. Whatever you buy make sure you can get a good concealment holster for it. As far as 9mm goes… No, 9mm really isn’t enough but then neither is a .45 or a 5.56mm. A 30-06 with rapidly expanding soft points might be enough stopping power but even then I would want something a little stronger. Maybe a 40mm grenade launcher. Truth is there is no handgun that’s really powerful enough to guarantee 100% first shot stops. But just the sight of a handgun will make most criminal types run, and if that don’t do it the sound of a gun going off will probably make them start running. Unfortunately it’s the most dangerous criminals that are likely to stick around and fight it out. So you still need to get good ammo and actually train, you can’t just count on the loud bang to make them flee. Make sure you can hit your target with it and that you can draw it quickly. But the most important thing to do is to get a pistol that’s small and light enough that you can comfortably carry it all the time. That way you’ll have a gun if you happen to walk into a gunfight. If it’s a .380 or a 9mm then you are still better armed than you would without a pistol. |

No. Even a .22 Long rifle can inflict a fatal injury – so what? The idea is to incapacitate someone before they can kill you. Putting someone on a morgue table doesn’t mean anything if you’re laying on the one next to them. |

Some people think that a 1911 in .45 is the only acceptable pistol. And they are great guns, but there are others that work just as well, and even better for some people. There is no doubt that they have the best triggers. Personally, I am confident in my 9mm Gold Dots ot of my Glock 19, and that is all that matters. The Glock trigger isn't the greatest feelign in the world, but I really like that it is the same every time. I used to carry a Sig P229, but after doing some traing classes with it, I found that the double action on the first trigger pull threw me off. The single action trigger on the Sig is awesome, but I am willing to give it up for the consistent trigger pull of the Glock. I am considering the Sig DAK or HK LEM pistols which have consistent trigger pulls, but then I am giving up the single action trigger that I loved about the Sig in the first place. Plus they are all more expensive then Glocks. Also, I like the low recoil of 9mm so that I can make faster follow up shots. I would rather have 15 rounds of 9mm than 8 rounds of .45. |

Shoot what you like. If I need more than 8 rounds of fucking .45, I'm in WAY over my head. Just like the .223 vs. .308 argument, there's no arguing bigger bullets equal more damage. 1 round of trained .45 on target is better than 15 rounds of 9mm spray and pray. And if I need a HiCap, I'll carry my .45 XD: 14 rounds of .45 goodness. 9mm is STILL for Women, pansies and piss poor shooters.  SG Face it: WWJWC? What Would John Wayne Carry???? |

I personally carry a 5" 1911 most of the time. I can shoot like nobody's business with it. In the summertime (that lasts about two weeks here in MN) I carry a Glock 26 in a kydex IWB. If I sweat all over the Glock it just doesn't matter. But, it's important that you carry what is comfortable for you, first and foremost.

the best caliber is the one you actually carry everywhere ALL the time.
due to my job that pretty much relegates me to my keltec 380. off shift it my be a 9mm cz75,or 1911 45 or 357 snubbie depending on my dress. if it's war... my xd45 tactical is really gaining my confidence. i ALWAYS prefer 45acp to 9mm no matter what the enviornment. but situations a dress sometime dictate otherwise. Those that pont out 9mm is just a hair smaller than 45 are forgetting one MAJOR thing. MASS. bullet weight coupled with velocity are what does damage. ALWAYS go for the heaviest bullet available. that in most cases rules out 9mm. |

You wear dresses?   Whats with the whole 9mm vs .45 argument? Both of them work well enough, it really comes down to personal taste. Also, I must point out that the equation for KE is E=m*velocity^2, velocity has a larger effect than mass on the total kinetic energy (because velocity is squared). Personally I would use the .45 though. Just try as many of both calibers that you can, and find out which one suits you best. |

Nothing beats the Glock 36 for accuracy, reliability, stopping power, and size/weight… NOTHING!
It's the thinnest Glock on the market… because it was designed for concealed carry. It's the only Glock with a loaded chamber indicator… because it was designed for CC. Even compared side-by-side w/a J-frame Smith, the G36 reigns supreme.

I've got a Kel-Tec P11 9mm with 13 rounds of Gold Dot. Reliable, easy to conceal, and fits my hand pretty well. The trigger isn't great, but it isn't a target pistol.
IMHO, the most important concerns are to have a gun that you can carry everywhere and that it's reliable for you. Accuracy and power are good too, but they're worthless if you don't have the gun because it's uncomfortable and too hard to hide, or it jams. And even then, being on-target is more important then having the biggest, nastiest loads around. |

Many would say it is not needed, but some prefer it. I like the fact that I can tell it is chambered in total darkness, but again, that's just my opinion. |
