I drove about 3300 miles in 4 days back in '89.

I was hired by The Boeing Co. and I had to get from Dayton OH to Seattle WA.

Drove about 12-14 hours everyday. Woke up - had a good breakfast then drove & drove & drove - gassed up then drove until I was sleepy ( usually around 8-9 pm ) repeat daily.

I made the drive in a $300 used 78 Pontiac Firebird

Day 1 - Dayton OH to Lincoln NE
Day 2 - Lincoln NE to Laramie WY
Day 3 - Laramie WY to Twin Falls ID
Day 4 - Twin Falls ID to Seattle WA

I was jonesin' for a hitch hiker about day 3

I recently rode to Az on a motorcycle left on a friday, came back on a sat night. Drove all that next week to work and made two trips into L.A. About 90% of the miles on a motorcycle.

So, about 1600 miles

Reading, PA to Bellingham, WA and back two Decembers ago...
Did it alone too. The wife was frantic, and asked that I call every time I stopped for the night.

2911 miles each way = 5822 total round trip.
Left on a Wed morning, returned the following Wed morning.

Driving a 2000 Chevy Dually with a 454. Towed a trailer/car out, returned without it. Lost count of how many times I stopped for gas...
Used about 3qts of oil, lots of brake dust on the wheels, and covered in road salt.
Made the trip without any trouble though.
Averaged 4-6mpg on the way out, and 11-13 on the way back.

I rodeo'd in college (before my brains grew in). I've had several 4,000 mile weeks and a 10,000 mile month. Doing two oil changes in a week always seemed funny to me.

Funny story: I was asleep and my traveling partner was driving. He's a good guy, but not really all that bright. Somewhere between Amarillo and Albuquerque, I woke up to the sound of an almost redlined Chevy 350. Catching an eyefull of the speedometer I asked:

Me: "Heath, what in the hell is goin' on?"
Him: "We gotta hurry!!"
Me: "Why?"
Him: "We're almost outta gas!"

Austin to Dallas. Dallas to Austin. Austin to Phoenix. All in one week. I guess that's 1400 miles or so not counting the rest of my driving in Phoenix that week to and from work. My foot was killing me from the Austin to Phoenix trip. My father's van had a messed up speedometer so the cruise control did not work.

I wish I'd just gotten a hotel room and stayed.

The most I have ever done was 4186 miles in one week. I drove from Houston, TX to Newport Beach, CA. 2,093 miles one way. I spent over 60 hours in the car with my mother, who is vehemently anti-gun. Talk about an entertaining trip.

I used to drive a truck and would log a 2,800+ mile week on a regular basis. But I had to bobtail 40 miles to get to my pickup and drop locations one way. At two round trips a week that amounts to an extra 160 miles on top of that.

Then there were the miles I drove in my 4 wheeler when I was home. So 3,000 mile weeks were common. On rare occasions one pickup might be delayed a day which would tack another 740+ miles onto a seven day period when I got back on schedule the next week. So I wouldn’t be surprised if I had a couple 4,000 mile weeks in there somewhere.

But 2,500+ miles is a lot of driving particularly if you aren’t used to it.

6 yrs ago the wife and I drove from north of Seattle to Buffalo and back in a week.  Moved a son back home.  I was the only one behind the wheel of the truck.  Our ac broke in Montana on the way.  This was in August.  We kept the windows open and the wings turned backwards to give us wind, and the truck was like a big convection oven. 5824 miles round trip.

About 3,000 miles in 4 days.  I drove from Lexington Park, MD to east TN one day and stayed at my sister's house, then the next morning hit the road and drove to Shamrock, TX, and the next day to Yuma, AZ.  The next morning I drove to Phoenix and back.  Average speed was just a hair over 70 including food/fuel stops along the way, but excluding time spent parked at the hotel.  One the second day, made it from Memphis to Shamrock non-stop... basically crossed AR and OK without setting foot in either state.

In 1998....about 2600 miles in 2 days from Memphis to Seattle w/ a side trip to Mt. Rushmore.  My cousin drove a U-haul and I followed in his car.  It took us about 48hrs to do the required 40hrs of driving.  We only stopped to gas up...meaning bathroom breaks had to be timed perfectly.  Our first stop for a hotel was 26hrs after we started.

Why this madness?  Because we all watched Cannonball growing up and wanted to experience it.
