What is the purpose of a neck knife, and how do you get to it quickly?

I use mine as a tool and as a last chance defensive weapon. You can access it quickly by just grabbing with either hand. I have been timed on a draw and slash in under a second.

Under a second when it is covered by a shirt?

I thought about getting a rig like that for my Kel Tec P3AT, but I couldnt get comfortable with having a loaded gun pointed at my head all the time.

I used to wear one as a summer backup when in shorts,  I got tired of pulling all my chest hairs out.

Nope, don't have any

Picked up several of Newt's knives way back before his problems & they are excellent blades for what I paid

I've always worried about a neck knife being used against me in a scuffle.

Ask and you shall receive.  Since I am technically improficient, this is a pic of the model I have from their website.  The only difference is I have a cord wrapped around grip frame.  Comes with a kydex sheath and different finish options.

2nd'ed.

Its mostly an issue of concealment for me though.
You can't walk around the city with a knife around your neck.
Concealing it, it still shows usually, and aside from comfort, it can be hard to get to. Having to reach while in a situation, you also hope you don't slice your torso open.

Worst thing is possibly facing charges of "carrying a concealed weapon with intent to use"

By contrast, I always have a knife clipped to my front pocket. The clip usually shows. To be clear, knife inside pocket, clip outside. Sure, I may still face potential weapon charges this way, if someone really wanted to be a complete dickhead to me... but after spending a few years as a firefighter, it's a risk I'm willing to take. Knives can and do save lives. They are a valuable tool, and I do not leave home without one.

Anytime I've face to faced with police for whatever reason, and have announced this "pocket knife clipped to my pocket" there was ZERO issue with it. Not even request for removal or inspection, just a non-issue. Of course, I am not a threat to LEO.

Pocket clips are great, they keep access right there, same spot, near your hand, almost a natural draw. Quick, safe, reliable. Not exactly concealed, I mean.. this is the *practical* way to carry the tool so, you can't really argue with that. Its just enough concealment that sheeple are'nt going apeshit when I walk into a room. I think both myself and LEO would prefer it that way.

My view is that its better legally, and better tactically, to have a knife clipped to the pocket, opposed to having it under a shirt, in a boot, etc...

I sometimes wear a CRKT Ryan Plan B. I carry it when wearing a shirt and tie and leave one button undone to make it fast to access. The tie conceals it nicely.

I wear a neck knife everyday. Today I went for a jog, and wore my Benchmade Tether, a great design and so light you hardly know it's there. Most days I'll wear a Becker Knife & Tool (BK&T) 11, or better known as the "Becker Necker." I sent it off to the Sheath Mechanic for some very functional slabs. The quality of the work for the price paid is excellent, and I'd highly recommend anyone who owns one to do the same.

These are the ones in my basic necker rotation, although I also like Newt's neckers as well as the Emerson LaGriffe.

Always under my shirt, and based on the pic you posted of yourself, I can see that mine is worn lower (about mid-chest). I guess that's just a matter of personal preference, so to each his own.

I experimented with alot of positions over the last 20 years and for me, I get less swing and bounce by wearing it up high. And since I wear mine 24/7 It doesn't tangle me up at night in bed. One other advantage to this, is that the draw is more consistent because the knife doesn't move around too much.

What do you use to hang yours, chain,paracord....??

Oh, now I see what you mean (I was tempted to say "my neck" ). It depends. I'll often use the ball chains that come with them, but my favorite setup is the one that comes with the Benchmade Tether. Both ends of the cord attach into a plastic connector, that looks similar to the plastic piece that wraps the end of a shoelace. If you had to, you could yank it hard and it would split apart, but normal everyday use doesn't budge it.

They can be drawn very quickly-you just need to reinsert it back into the sheath much slower.
