I'm talking about bands that rock, maybe had one hit and then basically disappeared. Not necessarily unsigned bands, but bands that you almost never hear on the radio. Here's my list:
Clutch Jimmy's Chicken Shack Anthrax I Mother Earth Local H Mad Season Sex Pistols The Ramones Social Distortion Off the top of my head that's it, but I think it's a good list. Your entries please: |
|
The Misfits
At the Gates Disembodied Earth Crisis Harvest Seconds Before Threadbare Meshuggah In Flames The Haunted Screeching Weasel Turmoil and on, and on, and on. |
|
I'm surprised to see the Ramones on your list. I'm not well versed in the music culture but I wouldn't have thought to list them as a non-mainstream, one hit wonder type.

Are you kidding? Tool is MASSIVELY popular. I can't go to the mall without seeing 5 guys with their Tool shirts, and Perfectcircle gets a ton of airplay too. Any group that has a platinum album is mainstream, and then some. |
|

Bah, blame it on hot topic. I still meet people who have no idea who they are. But when I mention "schism" they are like OH, them.
Not really mainstream to me. Hell even the kiddies (13 and so that my brother brings along) some of them have no idea and get introduced to it. I bet if you say Green Day/Linkin Park they will know who they are. Big difference. Then again most of this crap having to do with the music industry in general is subjective. But I found it funny when MTV interviewed him...

That's a pretty fucking good list you've got there. The ones in red are bands I listen to. I've never heard anyone else ever mention Poe before. In addition to the above stuff I'd add Violent Femmes Dramarama Material Issue Candy Skins Peter Murphy Matthew Sweet Chris Isaac Blur Morrissey Supergrass Tori Amos The Charlatans Cracker Misfits Circle Jerks Dead Kennedeys and many many others, but I don't have the time to list them all right now. |

Damn guy, are we lost brothers? I have albums from every single artist you mention. Dramarama & Candy Skins, damn I thought I was only one alive who remembered them. Supergrass is great, too. We gotta compare collections, I'd bet we could swap albums all day! |

This is a fraction of what my list would look like if I bothered to properly answer this thread. |
