Here's the scenario. You can only do one or the other. No mixing and matching.
You are given a Billion dollars tax free. You have two options on how you can spend it: You can stay in the US and try to use the money to reverse the damage that has been caused by decades of liberalism and judicial activism. Spend money funding think tanks (cato institute, heritage foundation), conservative / libertarian publications (national review, reason, etc), support bloggers and talks shows, donate to poltiicians who believe in the same things you do, etc. Of course, you'd be able to live a comfortable life here as well. Just one restricted by the nanny state. Or, you can take the billion and buy your own private island. It would be a sovereign nation where you could do whatever you wanted. Any gun you wanted could be yours. Decommissioned aircraft carrier off the shore? Sure, why not. Fully equipped tanks? Absolutely! Plus you can take along your family and have them and their children set for life as well. You can have your own mini hospital with a doctor, nurses, and dentist on call. You have nothing to worry about each day except how you're going to have fun. So what is it: Try to set things right with the country, or say "screw it!" and head off to paradise? |

This country is too far gone to save by throwing money at it...Island for me
You're going to need a hell of a lot more than $1 billion to unfuck what America has become.
Screw it I am getting my own island equipt with security forces so I can sit back with some popcorn and watch the SHTF........ But seriously if I thought it was possible to get America back on track I would put the billion there. But there is no denying a aircraft carrier sounds cool :)
I voted for the island.
I would need more than a billion to do either. |
one island for me. i control the borders, too. I am king. all of my subjects are hot womenz.
$1B doesn't do squat to stop GW from pissing away the country. I'd buy my own island which has a natural border and no ports for the UAE to buy.
Island and my own country..... My own currency (print eleventy billion dollars or whatever Ill call it) and exchange it. WIN!!!
Island, pie, guns, ya know? ETA: and... more pie! |
+1 Anything short of about 5 trillion is just wasting time. Hell, I figure buying senators will be about 50mil a peice, Reps about 25mil (plus 10 for each term they are re-elected), and SCJ's about 100mil a peice. Then you have to start lining the pockets of corporations, and state govermnets, etc etc. All said and done, it would be a hell of a lot easier (and more likely to happen) with the magic wand I will find while digging through my pot of gold at the end of my rainbow. Island for me, stocked with a shooting range, booze, women, and food/fresh water. Oh, and my own airstrip/G4 jet. Can this island have a oil well and a grove of coconuts for my own exports? And can this island be a country unto itself, with me alone as its Dictator? Can't forget my Navy, the Iowa-Class battleship... |
I would make it my life's goal to make sure every high school in the USA had a modern indoor rifle range and a well-equipped small bore team.
Own island idea sucks. Better to purchase a huge piece of land within the U.S. and work from there.
Several extremely wealthy people have tried the "my own island" thing and it did not work for resource purposes. Granted they were spoiled and did not want to deal with power and water facilities, nonetheless, it sucked for them. 1B is not that much by standards in play to cause an effect in change in this country. Like I said, a huge tract of land somewhere cheap... ND, SD, ID.. etc... you could make your mandate there. If I had 1B, I'd be taking the money from the rest of the idiots in Vegas in my off-off-strip casino. |
Island for sure. Bad thing is though, is every island I've ever seen on high class real estate sites have always been part of some country already. But they aren't that expensive, I saw one a few months ago for $7 or $8 million off the coast of Belize. I think it was around 20 acres, plenty big to raise hell on.
Island.
instead of junk cars in a field to shoot, i'd have a frigate just off the beach to shoot. I'd be an islander redneck. |
That's why I made it a billion. You can get a pretty good sized island for $10 or $20 million, then add in another $10 million to bribe the country's government to let you go independent. |
Island
Expect they blow more then one billion on worthless shit in a day or 2 |
island.
if you don't, the goverment will take most of it anyway and redistribute it to aid Katrina refugees. |
+1 i'd also build up a self sufficient island for half the cash. the other half would be spent on keeping it a secret from america so the island dosnt become a target for "westernization". I likes my chicks of the asian persuasion thank you very mucho! |
Might not even have to bribe. Just find a shitty 3rd world nation and you could probably buy an island directly from the govt for $5 or $10 million. I personally could probably handle no electricity depending on what climate it is, fresh water source would be only real concern. |

A billion dollars is a small drop in huge bucket--I'll be on my island.
A billion dollars... hmm.... seems like I could finance a lot of candidates that have a similar mindset. Literally "buying" every possible office in the country from state houses to the presidency. After the right kind of people are in office, the agend would begin. America can be restored!
... a billion dollars wouldn't even run this country for a ½ hour.
... What do you think my choice would be? |
When has throwing money at a problem ever solved it?
A billion rounds of 5.56 might do the trick though. |
Uh, ah, lemmie think.........
ISLAND!!! Gee, that was a really tuff decision..... but the daily rate for porn star babes divided into a billion made the choice easier. |
And Texas........ huge parcels of land plus they are affordable.... If I have to choose, I'll take the island.... please.. |
+1 A billion dollars is not enough. I would start a new country, and hopefully it would take another 200 years for it to go into the crapper. |
Pat, I will take the Island for 1 billion. It is going take bullets, not money to save America.
Vote for the island. I would hire alot of mercenaries and take another country. Then ask the USA for foreign aid in order to maintain my wealth.
I'm city boy. No islands for me thank you. I would start business ventures. Invest and have houses all over the world. The country, I like it the way it is. Its on top. Best economy. The most freedoms compared to all the countries out there. We still have better standards of living. What you want to throw us back pre 1776???
I'd simply go and "get" and island that nobody really owns lol (Is that possible?).
I'd prolly buy and island. Depending on the size and start my own country. "Investing" And such might be a good idea, but with that amount of money you could put it in the bank, live off the interest and still be rich. No worrys, just pure enjoyment. |
Practice makes perfect. |
I've always wanted to live like a James Bond villain with an island and an army of totally hot women. So for me it's an island, 1000 women, 6.8mm
I voted to get America back on track. Of course, one billion dollars is too small to change America. However, I would try to make a small difference. First, I would get some primo real estate in Manhattan and San Francisco to make money on rent. Then, I would get some cheap property in a small town in rural Montana and the Adirondacks in New York. Build an orphanage in Montana for anyone to drop off unwanted babies, and build a halfway house in New York for alcohol and drug treatment. Hire people I know to run it. Fund the orphanage and halfway house through the rent.
" Use the money to try to restore america to what it was meant to be "
Explain what this ^ means first. |
+1 |
I voted option 1. My strategy would be to buy out all major media outlets, and screw them like they have screwed us over the last four decades. I would make every movie maker and journalist in America get on the boat or walk the damn plank. Fair and balanced or out of a job. Continual reinvestment in the media complex to grow the concept and stay ahead of the commies.
ETA.....and then hope I am around 40 years from now to enjoy it....... |
Sorry, I go with Island....$1 Billion won't scratch the surface of whats wrong with this country. Its getting to the point where I fear only the law of 5.56 can save it...but thats another thread.
Plus, truthfully, a lot of the libs, dems, bleeding hearts, commies, etc in this country don't deserve saving.... |
This statement sums up the enigma that is modern conservatism in America.
Island
$1 Billion won't unfuck the ol U.S. of A. but it'll go a hell of a long way to unfucking me!! I'll bring a couple of you guys with me and we'll make our own machine guns!! Jeremy |
All you need to do is read the constitution and BOR. Limited federal government doing only the jobs the constitution empowers it to do. Vast majority of powers delegated to the states, so the citizens of those states can decide how much power THEY want to give to their state government. |
