I keep seeing this come up on the various pic and info threads on the 556, so maybe this will help. According to Sigforum some members on this forum, a Sig rep did say that the new Sig 556:

- Will accept the folding stock in place of the collapsable
- Will accept Sig 550/1/2 handguards
- Will be available without the raised sight rail

STOP INTRODUCING FACT AND LOGIC INTO THE DEBATE!

You'll screw it all up!

I'm a total prude.

I want to see the FOLDING STOCK and HANDGUARDS minus the RAISED RAIL before I even consider saving funds for the rifle.

Still AR mags?  I can deal with that, hate to stock up on a completely different type of mag.

Forgot to add that I recall somewhere mentioning that they will be producing their own version of AR magazines, similar to the ones for the original Sig 550 series. I think they'll be able to attach together, etc.

+1

I have yet to outshoot the potential of my AR15's.

I can't Imagine a piston driven upper outshoot what I have now.

So why bother spending the money to retool for new crap that nobody really wants?  Ploy to sell aftermarket stocks?

so that $1200 rifle is now going to cost $2000+.

THE REP ALSO SAID that the 556 at the Shot Show is a "Proto-type only".

I thought having a post that answered the questions that kept coming up in the other dozen would help reduce the Sig 556 threads.

Gonna be funny if it gets such a negative reaction (this just by judging internet forums, excluding the Sig Forum) that Sigarms just says "fuck it" and scraps the idea all together.

Actually, that wouldn't be funny.

So we are going to have to buy the rifle and then another few hundred dollars worth of hardware to get the rifle we asked for in the first place?

Maybe the options will be offered as options when purchasing, much like VEPRs can be purchased with a muzzle brake or FH, vented HGs, etc. At least the possibility is there.
