I said hivemind
Anyway, My Current build will be done within about 2 weeks, and it's the first AR I've ever had. Yes I know I have an awful lot of damn posts to be just now getting my first AR shut up. Anyway. It's gonna be the flattop carbine I've been yelling about forever. Here is the question. I know to just get USGI mags, but how many? Whats the proper amount of loaded mags to have for each AR? |
Didn't we just do this?...
ETA: Close, but not exactly... www.jobrelatedstuff.com/forums/topic.html?b=3&f=17&t=265297 FWIW (as I posted in the other thread), once you get beyond a certain number of rifles and arbitrary "Minimun # per rifle" doesn't really make much sense IMHO. If I only had 1 or 2 ARs, I wouldn't be comfortable with less than 10 per AR... I really don't think I need 10 per rifle at this point (althopugh I'm probably not far off that mark anyway ). |
As many as you can afford. Mags wear out or may be banned. Stock up and buy in bulk.
i have 45 loaded.
but then i rotate them out every shoot, that way i never have to load mags |
I wish the mag loading fairy lived at my house. j/k don't ban me...... |
I say 6-10 mags per rifle. How much ammo can you carry?
All your spare ammo should be on stipper clips so the women folk can reload for ya. |
i have been told there are plenty of fairies at your house |

I have 6 30 rounders and 4 20 rounders and one AR,but i got a new lower today so i had better order some more mags.
Then you need 2,247 mags. Better get cracking. |

Before I was infected with BRD a former (chick) roommates husband (deployed) left about 40 30 round USGI mags at the house, when she moved out, she gave em to me. I gave them to a friend who promptly got them confiscated

I got to know the story behind this. And I keep about 20 or so loaded at all times. |
I only have 1 AR and 36 loaded mags for it. A couple hundred more rounds loaded on stipper clips. |

Were they marked post-ban mags that were in posession before the AWB expired in Sept, 2004? |

This was back in 99. I was 18 or so. Illegal M-16. NOT a modified AR-15. An Actual M-16A1. He got all his stuff taken and some how got away with fines and probation. Didn't have to spend a day in club fed. Few days in county though.

The mystery deepens... |

I voted 11-15, as a minimum per AR, that's a basic load with some spairs. But it's always good to have more.
AR15,hence: ANSWER,RIGHT-15.So,15 mags,minimum.More if you're left handed.Or from Arkansas.

I have 5 loaded 30 rd AR mags and 5 20 rd. M1a loaded. Just need a "go bag" to put them in until I get an Eagle vest or chest rig to put them in.

From the DOJ Possession of a Machine Gun 10 years, $250,000 fine 18 U.S.C. § 922(o) He was probably high. |

Mags are a safe investment if you don't mind having your money tied up for a while. Mark my words, the Ban WILL be back and without a sunset next time.

Are you talking about how many mags to buy, or how many to keep loaded?
I generally load whatever I'm planning to take to the range, plus one or two in the safe just in case. |
Personally, I'm working towards a goal of having 1000 rounds in magazines. I order 1000 rds at a time as it is, and it would be nice to have it all in magazines. So, I need about 33 30 rounders. I think I have 6 at the moment.
What good is an empty magazine? |
Loaded magazines not under your direct control in MA are considered the same as leaving a gun loaded and unlocked, ie, ticket to jail. :/ |
Oh, for Pete's sake... |
I used to load mags to take to the range but I typically don't shoot full mags. I load my chest rig down with 6 rounders and double tap 3 targets from different possitions reloading in between. Or we shoot drills where we have a specific number of rounds and one dummy between two magazines so we don't know when to clear or reload. Stuff like that I keep two magazines loaded one in the gun and one in a butstock pouch. |
