I use Scottrade and Brown. Both are good. Brown was just bought out by ETrade, so things may change, who knows? If I were opening a new account I would minimize the uncertainty and go with Scottrade.

I use Scottrade. No complaints. I'm hardly a trading platform guru though.

I only know Scottrade cause I sold brokered CD's to em back in the day when I was working for a boutique firm in San Clemente. We specialized in underwriting brokered CD's and Scottrade bought most of our deals. Not a bad outfit as far as I can tell. I use BrownCo, which is ETrade now.
Hey Crappy, you're site still up?? You had some funny shit back then. That whole getting your GF to fix your truck photo essay was funny. Specially the "chop chop comment and the pic that came with it. |

The site is down right now. The computer that I had it running on crapped out and i haven't found the time to reload everything again. I have a few new ideas that I think are super funny and when I get some time I am going to "drop" them online. I will spam this place as usual when I get another site up and running.

I have it and haven't had any problems with it. It's not the most beautiful website ever created but you don't really need that to trade a few stocks. I don't ever use it though... it's kind of like a gambling fund... and I lost.

I've tried scotrade...yea, she's ok. Really depends on what kind of trader you are. For me Schwab is great. Very good research, in easy to review format, great for picking funds. It’s $10 or so per trade. If you do a really high volume I’d go with Scot or brown & co. If not, Schwab has always treated me very well and I like their online format the best and totally one stop shopping, they do everything, 401k, banking etc.

Stay away from Ameritrade. I know so many people that have worked for them. Half of them are dumbasses. I hired one once. Had an MBA and everything. Was dumb as a rock. And he was a manager at Ameritrade. I fired his ass before his 90 day period was over. Guy could not understand the concept of hedging a short position. And he had an MBA!!! |

I use Scottrade. After the dotcom blow up, retail trading activity fell off and a lot of online brokerages started charging a monthly maintenance fee if you didn't buy or sell anything that month. Scottrade didn't, no matter what your balance was. Never had any kind of problem with them whatsoever.

Schwab screwed me repeatedly. I can directly attribute over $1000 in losses just to their decision to change their user interfaces for the hell of it, and to lock me out of my account on two occasions due to their pointless policy changes.
ScotTrade has a relatively ugly interface but at least they don't screw things up in order to make them "simpler". |
